Tips to win an Ametuer fight on points?

I have a tourney coming up, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips/thoughts/suggestions on how to rack up the points in an ametuer fight.

Are there small things that can influence the judges? I know they are human, and sometimes they might be on the fence when it come to hitting that button. And one point can make or break a 3 round fight. Example: Standing not sitting between rounds. Being the constant aggressor, throwing more punches (of course), don't clinch, stick to 2-3 punch combinations, focus on mostly straight punches etc etc etc.


P.S.- I tend to use a high guard a la Arthur Abraham style also.

Be the last one throwing in exchanges. Even if you got out-pointed in it, you'll likely still get awarded the points. Judges are trained to wait for the exchange to end before registering a click, or comp. hit...and tend to award it that way.

End every round strong - Don't be lazy that last 10-15 seconds no matter how tired you are...You will be tired!

Pay off the judges.

what about slick defense? or would they rather see just a nice counter? ;D

If the judges are using the comuter system then the key is to land the cleaner shots.

I know it does not sound sporting but once you get your nose in front after the first round,if they tell you the score in between round then go on the backfoot and try not to make mistakes,hands up high and look to counter.

I've been told that it is also a good idea to be aware of where the judges are seated and then make sure that you position yourself so that the majority of the judges see your punches landing clean. This is based on the funny thing about amateur scoring in that the judges press a button for either the "blue" or "red" fighter according to the number of clean punches that they see, and later the computer tallies up the punches.

Anyways the punch you don't want to leave without is the jab. It's the punch that the judges zero in on first, and look at before any other punch. It's a low risk punch for the most part, and is something that you should be constantly trying to improve.

Mate take note of Chris's point about the jab.

They love to see a fight controlled off the jab they love to see the fight combinations come out from behind the jab specially when it is setting it all up.

Also the jab or straight shots that land and interrupt the oppositions movement they always seem to all agree on and score you.

Control the fight and its yours.
