Can any one help Laptop to TV idiots guide please
Hi
Can anyone shed some light on this problem i am trying to set up my laptop to stream onto my 46 inch LCD. its networked not WIFI the computor is a HP NX300 it has a VGA port and a firewire nothing else i bought a VGA to HDMI cable with sound cables intergrated but i cannot get it to work do i need to do something with the laptop i have set the pc section on my TV to the correct port to accept the PC and nothing. i have tried to change the display monitor to extend to number 2 monitor but it will not stay on number 2 keeps going back to number 1 no picture no sound its driving me mad help please........

You will need to toggle the output on the laptop.
Usually with most laptops, after you have all the physical connections connected and have the tv set to the proper input setting, you would then press a combination on the laptop to toggle the output.
Most HP laptops are either: function(fn) + any key from F4-F7. Check the F1 - F12 keys and check for the key labeled with a monitor. that will be the key you press down with the FN key.

ok tried that pressed FN and F4 got the screen to screen message in bottom corner of laptop still nothing no sound no picture checked the imput on TV that was where i had HDMI cable its got me thinking the sound cable will not fit my laptop its not long enough to reach the jack on the side of laptop could this be why? i do have another sound cable going from laptomp into proper input hole on tV. Maybe the cable is faulty should i try VGA to VGA

I set mine up via my graphics card settings for dual displays. Any video I play goes to my plasma and I can still use my lappy as normal. Just picture no sound as my lappy is hooked up to the THX kit.
It was a wizard I used.
Not the ones in pointy hats, a program wizard.

I have an nVidia 7800 GTX card in my lappy and just downloaded an application (which includes the drivers) from the nVIdia website.
I just go to control panel, then appearance and themes, then click display and go to settings. In the advanced section the wizard was in there as an nVidia thumbnail. This allowed setting up for dual screens.
What card does your lappy/tower have? I'll sort you out if I can
