Director John Hughes of 80s classic films Dead
'Sixteen Candles,' 'Breakfast Club' director Hughes dead at 59 - CNN.com
This guy directed a lot of classics in the '80s like 16 Candles, National Lampoon's Vacation, Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, etc.
The guy was a freaking legend. RIP.

Yeah I heard that yesterday, shocker...the guy was a great movie maker. Sure not many of his films are "fine art" but 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', 'National Lampoon's Vacation' all of his Brat pack movies, Home Alone.....the guy made fun movies. It's a shame he died, and only at 59 too, he could have worked for a lot longer.

No shit loved allot of his films, ferris bueller's day off and breakfast club are classic coming of age films loved them as a kid. Shame he died so early.

I'm not a massive Hughes fan, but he made some very enjoyable and fun films. He was a typical director in that he had no sense regarding self image and often sported a mullet which was in itself rather tragic. But I remember really liking Planes, trains and automobiles and Home Alone as a kid.
A shame he died so young. Only 59. :-\

Cocaine is a hell of a drug .... I can only figure he ended up doing a bunch of it during the 80's hanging out with Chevy Chase, Harold Ramis, John Candy etc etc
