Pavlik's Strange Behavior
From Dan Rafael's blog
"Arum, on the other hand, assured me it would all be worked out this week, though it's pretty clear Arum himself isn't pleased with Pavlik.
He and Dunkin both said Pavlik missed at least three doctor's appointments and that the fighter didn't finally see a physician until just hours before he was supposed to leave for New York. Why would a world champion with a multimillion-dollar fight in front of him miss three appointments to have his hand checked? Remember, Pavlik makes his multimillion-dollar living with his hands.
It seems like very odd behavior and, quite frankly, highly unprofessional.
It took a lot to get the sides to agree on the fight. It would be a shame to see it go down the drain."

Re: Pavlik's Strange Behavior
We all want our fighters to be fit and healthy coming into fights, but at some point fans are going to get sick of the stuff.....
It's been a pretty dull year so it sux... In a year chock full of great fights, then talk of extra ones is just icing on the cake.. But it's been a crap year, and just about every good match up we've been teased with has been nothing more than hot air, postponed, canceled, negotiations fallen through, fighters avoiding fighters, fighters wanting to much money, fighters not agreeing on weight.....
Between all that crap, a year goes by and we aren't seeing the match ups that bring boxing some glory....
With all the UFC people think boxing is dieing, and Boxing people think UFC isn't even alive to begin with,,, one thing i'll say,,, UFC is for the most part giving them the fights they want.... Not spending 3/4 of the year teasing them with matchups that never happen...
Anyway, not to say this is the case with Pavlik, but it seems between all the fights that DON'T get made, the ones that are seem to have drama surrounding them right up until fight day... TIRED OF IT!!

It makes me think that the "drinking problem rumors" may be more then just rumors.

Yeah he seems to have gone through a lot of mental trouble following the Hopkins beating, and it's just manifesting in all the ways that a millionaire can lead themselves astray..
But with such talent, he needs a good manager and trainer and team around him to keep him focused and motivated and wanting to fight... I think he would have lost some passion after that loss when he was on such a high before that, but gotta get your head back in the game for the fans and for himself..... If he goes out like that without putting 100% into at least another fight, he'll be messed up for life..
Re: Pavlik's Strange Behavior
Unfortunately for Pavlik, I think has alrady hit the high point of his career in beating Taylor and Miranda. The loss to Hopkins will probably be the mark on his record that stands out the most. He is now 35-1 and if you look back at almost all champions record that is around the time you start to generally see a win for every loss. In my honest opinion, Kelly will probably retire 37-3 or 4 or something like that because he is fighting better fighters now and the fights will get harder and wear on him more. This is when his weaknesses will really start to show. Plus, I think people forget that he is 1-1 fights that have gone the distance in 12 rounds. At this level he wont be able to knock everyone out. He hasnt fought a lot of "boxers" but the few he has, hes struggled. Lets see how he does against a Sturm or someone like that. My guess is that he struggles with all good boxers, not just Bernard and Taylor, the only two he has faced so far.

This is a good post.
I don't think he'll retire at ~37-4, but I do think there's a very good chance that that's where his record stands 18-24 months from now.
