Murray vs Thaxton, what is the point
I think we have another Michael Jennings with Murray. He is happy keeping his undefeated record fighting loosers. It is fine till you have to fight someone good and are made to look stupid. Thaxton who has no technique, just power in the first few rounds till he gets tired and does not have the brains to even contemplate adapting to his opponent.
Murray is ranked 11 in the lightweight devision should be given a challenge after 27 fights. I would like to see him fight someone in the top ten but I dont think he has any desire to challenge himself.

I agree, Murray seems to spend far too much of his time sniping at Khan rather than actually trying to do something himself. He talked about fighting Juan Diaz, despite having yet to move above Brit level. He should get a fight with someone like Miguel Acosta or Paulus Moses before moving onto the better guys at 135. His behaviour before the Lawton fight was also embarassingly unprofessional

I dont quite think Thaxton is that bad, i know he looked awful in his last fight but im assuming he'll look better back at Lightweight.
Murry isn't anything special himself so to me it's a decent match up.
To put things in to perspective. Khan got a bit of stick for not fighting Thaxton so for Murray (who isn't a world class operator) to take on one of Britain's best... Its a good thing. Well, it's a step up either way.

I like the fight.
Thaxton is coming off the losses and is clearly on the slide (well probably gone) but with Murray's shit defence he's gonna have to walk through some serious wallops before wearing Thaxton down. I'm not sure Murray is a cert to do that.

I'm a big Murray fan, there's nothing better than a guy who genuinely loves to fight....... From my point of view, Murray is not well known enough to get bigger fights but he sure as hell will fight anyone who they put in there no doubt. Thaxton is the last remaining test at domestic level for Murray, seen as Kahn ran, just unfortunately not as much of a test as he would have been a couple of years ago. If Thaxton still had the European title, they would be fighting for that aswell as the Lonsdale belt and then Murray would be ready for anyone. It is a shame that Thaxton isn't quite what he was but it should be a cracker of a fight.... I'm gonna be there and can't wait.
I say Murray does struggle against a fast counter puncher as he loves to come straight in, but on the other hand, if Murray is matched well, I believe he could really provide some fantastic, in a phone booth wars against the likes of Katsidis, Diaz and even Valero. I'd also like to see him beat up Alex Arthur, thats a war right there, and more to that I'd also loved to have seen him go at it with Nate Campbell through 12 rounds....

Totally disagree. Murray moaned at Hennessy in Boxing News that he was sick of not getting challenges. Hennessy has now promised him a European title shot if he beats Thaxton. They even mentioned the possibility of trying to negotiate to fight Juan Diaz, but like Mac said, Murray isn't a big enough name to get that fight yet. If Murray doesn't test himself, he'll lose because he readily admitted that if its not a challenge, its not worth the effort for him. It's not down to Murray, its down to Hennessy that he's fighting Thaxton. He wins, he gets the Lonsdale belt for keeps and takes out his best domestic rival, then he can move onward from here.

Right on mate. Missed out the fact that I disagreed from my reply. I think Murray has the tools to give people alot of problems. He has that kind of wear you down attitude, i'm sure he'll take a hell of alot of stoppin thats for sure..... Just gotta love his hunt you down and batter you style..... Putting him in the same basket as Jennings is wrong. He was way way out of his depth facing a WC fighter in Cotto, Murray certainly wouldn't be that far out of his depth and definately has the character to go to hell and back before he takes a defeat.....
I say he beats up Thaxton, and also he's now the mandatory challenger for Mezaache's european title, I reckon he'll beat him up too for sure, although it'll be a very very good test of how good Murray actually is that......

Murray has had 27 fights and it is only in his last three fights he has had challenging opponents. The record of the boxer he fought 4 fights ago was 4 wins to 8 losses.
I may be complaining at the wrong person here as I know how rubbish promoters can be. They can make or break a fighter. The fact is he needs to be challenged more being ranked 11th in the world.
Judging on Thaxtons last few fights I dont think he has a chance.
A good fight someone mentioned earlier was Murray vs Katsidis. A tough fight for him but not impossible. That would give him a good chance of moving towards a world championship.

At least it gives ammo to the Khan bashers. If Murray wins he'd no doubt knock Khan out. If Thaxton wins he'd no doubt knock Khan out.

Knowing what I know about Murray, he will really thrive on the competition and will certainly get more up for the fight the bigger the fight. He definately needs bigger fights for sure, but no one wants to get beat by someone they have never heard of which is why he'll find it tough to get good fights. abit like Jamie Moore, top fighter but not known atall outside of manchester... He needs some proper promotion, but Hennessey just gives all to froch in my opinion, maybe thats a bit harsh but. Truth i guess.
