tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
First off, hello to eveyone.
I'm a Male, 37, 6'0", 215 lbs
I'm not a boxer (trained in kickboxing in my late teens early twentys), but I do enjoy training (heavy bag, speed bag, rope and road work).
I have tendonitis in my right outer elbow. My doctor gave me a cortizone shot back in March. It has been doing fairly well only acting up every now and then. About a week ago after my first round on the heavy bag it started aching again. I finished my workout and iced it down, but it has not eased up yet. I'm dreading going back to the doctor.
My question is does/has any one else had any problems with tendonitis in the elbow? and what did you do to treat/cure it?
Thanks
Chris
Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
Throughout 2008, I struggled with severe elbow problems. To this day I do not know what it really was. But I figured out how to fix both it and a few other injuries I've had along the way.
First step - rest. You must relax that particular area or please expect no gains in recovery. Use the RICE protocol to facilitate healing.
Second step - regain. The name of the game is SLOW. Once everything feels good start with a pathetically low weight at a pathetically low rep range. On a daily basis increase (slowly) both your weight and your reps. Make sure there is no pain during and after. Eventually you will get back to normal.
With this protocol I've been able to heal several rather major injuries without a doctor's help (I've tried but most often I know more than them!). Whatever you do, don't train through the pain!!!
Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
Thanks for the information, I'll give it a try.
Thanks,
Chris
Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
Stretch the Tendons of the elbow upper and lower. Question do you get Pins and Needles in your Fingers.
Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
No pins and needles in the fingers. The pain is on the outside of the elbow and sometimes radiates half way down the forearm. Lifting anything palm down seems to aggrivate it.
Thanks

Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
Okay just sounds like the Elbow, stretching is the answer. Trouble is the stretches are hard to describe ;D
Re: tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
I've had the history of shoulder tendinitis a few years back. Steroid like cortisone won't do any help. RICE protocol is good if you have injury due to trauma but since tendonitis is a chronic pain as a result of inflammation of the tendons, RICE is not the real answer but may help a little.
A simple pain reliever wont remove the pain as long as the inflammation is still there. An anti-inflammatory agent will do the solving and try to rest the affected part bec. continue using it may agrevate the swelling.
