With all the catchweights nowadays going around you can't dismiss it...
I think it's a worry, where does it stop , will we see a welter in against a super middleweight just 'cause a promoter thinks it's a good idea. If the catch weight thing continues I reckon someone is going to get seiously hurt.
isn't it the Diaz-Malignaggi fight fought as jr. welter but the contract demanded by GBP was 138.5lbs weight limit..
My real concern is that some guy is coming in at 134 probably with no dehydrating, then you have a guy weighing in 9 lbs heavier and probably had to cut weight to make it. How big of a disparity will the weight be come fight night? At least in most catch weight fights you don't have one guy outweighing the other by possibly 15 or more lbs come fight night.
This is the way of the future unfortunately, I hate catchweight fights for the most part especially when they are as meaningless as this one.
This weight is halfway between Welter and Light Welter so it makes sense, even if it is a horrible idea.
Fight in weight classes you can make weight in.
It'll take someone getting seriously hurt for promoters to have a suitable back up plan. But even then...
shite, the age also.Guy is 38 and original opponent Browning is pushing what,42 years old ???
With the Gatti-Gamache lawsuit back in the light and still looming, you would think these things would not go unnoticed. The commision should not allow this fight.
Julio fought at 111 pounds 3 years ago!
There's a sub par Mighty Mike joke here somewhere
Projective nervous vomiting!
He shit himself!
Sorry :shakehead:
This is what happens when weightclasses and titles are deemed worthless because of the number of them. I'm nort surprised guys have started fighting at their absolute prime weight.
What's the big deal? A lightweight vs a welterweight. In only seems like a big deal because the sanctioning bodies have created 50 million weight classes.
Besides, Valuev usually outweighs his opponents by 100 pounds.
