Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
I just rewatched the fight (call me a masochist), and while I do think Jacobs probably edged it, I feel it was much closer than the score cards indicated and I feel that an argument could be made that Ishe Smith won the fight by one point.
I despise Smith, but he landed the cleaner, more effective punches all fight long and also controlled the ring, pushing Jacobs to the ropes at will. Jacobs' did clearly outwork him, but should that really be weighted all that heavily when the vast majority of the work was completely ineffective? Obviously it forced Smith to play defense most of the fight, but in doing so he was able to make Jacobs miss and counter effectively.
Again, while I do feel that Jacobs edged it, I do think a case could be made that Smith won the fight, especially if a point had never been deducted.
Anyone else feel the same way or is it time for me to put the crack pipe down?

Yes. I actually had the fight scored 96-94 in favor of Smith. But since I don't give a damn about him it don't matter to me that he didn't get the win

I missed the first 5 rounds when it was airing live and I watching the fight on a shitty stream, but I had the last five rounds 4 - 1 in favor of Smith (I think).
After watching a good quality version of the entire fight this afternoon, I scored it 95-94 Smith because of the point deduction. However, there were a couple of rounds that I felt could have gone either way and I understand that some judges prefer volume over quality.

I think Jacobs left a lot to be desired.Like you said I think he edged it on work rate. But it was there to be won by either.Smith inconsistent even after rocking Jacobs and was well...Ishe Smith. The one margin of 79-73 (?) was off base.Similar to main events 118-110.

One scored was absurd. They were 96-93, 96-93, and 100-89.
I can understand 96-93 because of the deduction, but 100-89!?!
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
I had it 95-94 on a stream, rewatched an HD copy & had it 96-93 for Jacobs. I thought he did just that bit more throughout the rounds, although Smith could have had it, but he just seemed to back off everytime he got some momentum & lord knows why he was so desperate to start swinging after the bell. As an aside, in Jacobs' defence of that performance, Ishe Smith has to be one of the most difficult opponents in the sport to look good against

Man thats much worse.Thanks....I must have been thinking of some other blind judge ;D
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
It was close, but Jacobs deservedly won. No contraversy there, except for that scorecard. That was more disgraceful than the scores in the Paulie fight and there was no uproar. I dont think Ishe could make a case that he won though. He just didnt do enough.
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
Ishe Smith is hard to look good against, he can be patient to the point of boring you to death. Jacobs was probably throwing first the whole night, and I havent even seen the fight. Am I right?
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
i thought jacobs won. but he needs a lot of work.
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
i thought that Jacobs did enough to win, but on that note, he wasn't too impressive, Smith is naturally a smaller fighter, and although he has that Wright quality of making anyone look bad against him, IMO Jacobs just pretty much didn't force the fight enough, that said i had Jacobs winning 115-113
Re: Could an argument be made that Ishe Smith beat Daniel Jacobs?
115-113? wow and I thought 100-89 was bad ;) 115-113 is a quite horrible score for a 10 rounder ;)
Jacobs won the fight clearly and I cant see an argument that Ishe won
btw Smith was an asshole during the fight..

hahaha my bad put up my Malignaggi/Diaz score, hey give me a break i made the post at like 2 am, either way i had it 96-94 Jacobs, thought he controlled it early then basically let Smith fight at his pace getting the better of the fight on the second half, although i thought Jacobs won, it was far from a dominating win, he still needs a lot of improvement

and i don't think your score is too crazy either, it just depends on what you were looking for, but IMO no way it could have been ruled a clean sweep, i think we can all agree that Jacobs still needs a lot of work
