Boxing Result: Fury Defeats McDermott In Controversial Clash
Controversy erupted last night at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, England after Tyson Fury was declared the winner in his bout against English heavyweight titlist John McDermott following ten rounds of combat.
With only seven professional bouts under his belt, Fury at times looked well out of his depth against the smaller, quicker champion and only the towering heavyweight's hard jab kept him competitive during the contest.
After absorbing a verbal onslaught from Fury during the pre-fight media buildup, McDermott went on the offensive from the first bell and put his challenger into the unaccustomed position of having to fight off the back foot.
Fury showed a good chin as McDermott belted the Manchester giant with big right hands at will and seemed to get the better of the taller challenger on the inside as well.
Attempting to take energy away from McDermott, Fury targeted the champion's body but it seemed to have little effect on the motivated Essex man.

An absolutely disgraceful verdict. Decisions like this give boxing a bad name. The Referee Terry O'Connor must never be allowed to take control of another fight. A rematch must be ordered and this fight should be declared null and void. I had high hopes for Tyson Fury’s future but after last night’s fight I have my doubts. Shame on you Terry O'Connor!

Apparently there is bad blood between O Conner and Mcdermott's dad, and in the seventies Mcdermott senior did actully knock O Conner out in the ring.
Maybe this was something to do with the ridiculous scorecard, of Terry O Conner.
Re: Boxing Result: Fury Defeats McDermott In Controversial Clash
McDermott clearly won the fight, but its the ridiculous scorecard from the referee that really rankles. Never in a million years can someone honestly say the McD only won 2 rounds, its an absolute disgrace. I think the only reason Fury got the decision was because he's expected to have a big future and maybe O Connor didn't want him to suffer a setback like this. Disgrace though, they should have a rematch after that shambles of a decision.

Eactly what i think happened!
Re: Boxing Result: Fury Defeats McDermott In Controversial Clash
watched the fight for the first time and i scored for McDermott 98-93.....no way on this planet Fury won this fight. I may have been over critical in some rounds of Fury but Mcdermott won this by a mile.
Job Biscuit (Fury's defence and ESPECIALLY punching power way overrated in my opinion)!!!
eh eh!!!

I think McDermott won the fight, but don't think it was as bad a decision as the McDermott v Williams one a while back.
Thought Fury took a few rounds that the Sky commentators thought were McDermott's rounds.
I've seen a lot worse decisions tbh.
