Boxing Perspective: Miguel Cotto Looking To Upset The World
Miguel Angel Cotto is climbing his way back to the top of the boxing world after a difficult loss to Antonio Margarito.
Since that devastating loss, the fighter from Puerto Rico has fought against Michael Jennings and Joshua Clottey. In both cases, Cotto has been victorious and demonstrated through his domination in the ring that he is capable of taking on top ranked opponents.
When the opportunity came along for a fight between Cotto and Manny Pacquiao, both parties understood the immense potential to make lots of money and deliver one of the biggest fights of the year.
This fight is so important to Cotto’s career that he took less than 50 percent of the money and agreed to go down in weight for the fight.
There is no question that Cotto is willing to do what’s necessary in order to face Pacquiao, but the question remains; does he have the necessary skill to beat the best fighter in the world in a 12 round assault?
Most boxing analysts have already spoken in favour of Pacquiao. There is too much skill and ability on... Full Boxing Article here...

Pac Man over Cotto
I am picking Pac Man over Cotto. After all, just about all of the Top Ten lists have Manny as number one so how can I not pick him as the favorite? I truly believe Cotto’s style is perfect for Pacquiao to exploit with his great in-and-out movement accompanied by just about every punch in the manual and each thrown with malice aforethought. Now then, I clearly remember Cotto backing up in the late rounds against Clottey and I think I might have seen glimpses of the “Ghost of Margorito” somewhere in that ring. If Cotto backs up against Pacquiao, the Filipino superman will not let him off the hook as did Clottey. I see speed being the decisive factor in this one and speed is what Manny Pacquiao is all about.

I think Pacquiao will win for reasons I have said a hundred times, but people need to realize Cotto didn't always come forward in his career, there are plenty of times he fought going backwards before Margarito, most notably against
Abdullaev and Ndou. Cotto has no problem conceding the lead to his opponent, he doesn't mind going backwards, its just Margarito, cheating or not is a freak of nature in terms of his punch output and chin.
Cotto has pretty slick defensive skills, but he can be hit, and especially if you are throwing as many punches as Margarito.

Given his current financial woes he may have no choice but to fight the winner.

I do agree with the one previous post that Cotto's style is perfect for Pac. And it has to be true that the beating from Margarito and the draining fight from Clottey has to take its toll to some degree. That degree is not yet known. But I still feel Cotto will overwhelm Pac with smart and selective opportunities enough to win. Hatton showed the wrong way to overwhelm and the hooks Pac is looking to catch you with coming in. Hatton could as well have been the guinea pig for Cotto. Either way, I expect a war and no easy winner.
