Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
Mexican greats weigh in on Arreola's chances - ESPN
Julio Cesar Chavez, Pipino Cuevas, Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzales, Erik Morales, Rubin Olivares, and Carlos Zarate were asked about what they thought of Cristobal Arreola and his chances of winning the WBC title vs Vitali Klitschko, and all of them were proud, but honest. All of them agree that it's going to be a very tough fight for Arreola and
I think it is pretty special for Arreola (who is Mexican-American) to be commented on by such great fighters and seemingly adopted into their fold. I do recall that Mexicans don't get along to terribly well with Mexican-Americans, and there have been plenty of fights that showed that.
I do not rate Arreola's chances especially if he's out of shape, but I do think it is special that those great fighters took the time to speak (and speak well) about him.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
I think they pretty much have the right thoughts for this one. Arreola has a puncher's chance, and no doubt he is heavy-handed when he can land the shots, but the main problem is that he's going to struggle to get his fist to the Klitschko chin. The Klit-jab (TM) is almost impossible to get past, and that's the big obstacle for Arreola is not to ship too many punches whilst getting his big punches off.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
I wouldn't call it a puncher's chance, I think Arreola's only chance is to wear down Vitali and he's not going to do that with 1 punch.
IMO Arreola doesn't hit as hard as Lennox Lewis (obviously), Corrie Sanders, and maybe even Sam Peter...I don't see Arreola being able to hurt Vitali at all, unless Vitali allows himself to get drawn into a brawl and even then it's going to be like a Tank vs a Hummer....Vitali has superior skill and fire power, the only thing that can win this for Arreola is his heart or maybe Vitali's age
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
man i bet those guys aren't too fond of arreola. zarate had more skill in his left toenail than arreola does.

I know there was a lot of hate towards De la Hoya...or at least I kind of remember that being the case when he fought Chavez....maybe it's because he didn't act like a cholo like Vargas.

nah it was just becuz he beat up a Mexican great when he was well past his prime and was old and then he show boated after.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
We have two fighters with power , but only Vitali has a strong chin , he is also bigger , So unless he has grown old overnight , he wins by KO inside 4 rounds.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
Arreola will take a beating and a bad one
vitali is gonna love pumping solid right hands into that flabby stomach and nobody as unconditioned as that is gonna get away from those without feeling severe pain.
Arreolas best chance is to not allow vitali to establish a rhythm and prey to god he lands a clean hard perfect punch flash on the chin!!
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
and if he wins these same people will be sucking corona's off his teet.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
arreola's still fat as ever. Vitali by stoppage.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
Poo Arreola I don't think he's got a single shot at beating Vitaly.
Once Arreola tastes Vitalys power he'll fold like a lawn chair.
Re: Mexican Greats don't fancy Arreola's chances
It SHOULD be an easy nights work for Vitali...most of the guys who taste the power of Wladimir clam up right away and then look to counter, Vitali's opponents tend to stay lively, perhaps because of his pawing jab and because he'll take the time to line up his power punches giving his opponents time to rest and time to try and figure something out, while Wladimir is constantly pumping the jab.
Cris has heart, he's got decent handspeed, he lands at a decent rate, he can get wild and he has been down before. He's never lost before and it's going to be a tall order to teach him how to, because given the gravity of the situation Cris is going to have to hit the mat a couple times and maybe even get stopped by the ref if it comes to that. I think he'll take his beating like a man and come back for more right after he hits the canvas.
