Should Calzaghe make a come back? Or should he hang up his gloves for good?
Until today I didnt think this question up for debate, i though Joe had closed the book on his boxing career. He defended his world title for over a decade, defeated critics saying he'd been ducking the united states by beating two of their most notorious boxers in there own back yard.
He's proved his point to the world, he's earnt millions of pounds and now he's pushing 40 years old.
PLEASE TELL ME WHY HE WOULD?SHOULD EVER NEED TO ENTER THE RING AGAIN? Cos im confused.

I was a Calzaghe fan, but him 'defeating two of their most notorious boxers in their backyard' is misleading. He fought both guys at least 4 years later than when it might have meant something. The Hopkins win was a close & controversial one, whilst Jones was a shadow of himself. I think what really hurt him was that he turned down a fight with Pavlik, which I see no way he wouldn't of won, to fight an old Roy Jones. It didn't feel like the right end to his career to me, beating up on a pale imitation of RJJ.
His wins over Kessler & Lacy are great, but I wanted him to take on another young American talent, preferably Dawson who unlike Lacy isn't hyped off wins over sub-standard fighters. I think Calzaghe would still do it, but I'd love to see the fight. I'd also love him to come back & beat the shit outta Carl Froch ;D

I don't like Joe Calzaghe but he deserves credit, for the Bernard Hopkins win. Who is still a very good fighter and since his losses to Jermain Taylor, has remained in the top 10 P4P since 2006 while being over 40, with good wins over Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik.
I too thought Bernard Hopkins may of edged the fight, but you can't fault Joe Calzaghe for looking bad against Bernard Hopkins. Who has or who would ever look good against Bernard Hopkins ?
And also at the time i thought it would be a very close fight, and i personally thought Bernard Hopkins would win a SD because it was in the USA. But Joe Calzaghe got the nod cause of his aggression which Las Vegas judges like.
As for the RJJ fight, from day one i said the fight was just a farce. I can't fault Joe Calzaghe for taking it, but he also did say he would never fight RJJ now because it wouldn't mean everything. But now he expects the fans to say this and that because he beat RJJ.
The fact is RJJ hasn't been a top fighter since 2003, and since his 1st fight with Antonio Tarver he's looked shot. And his wins against badly faded Jeff Lacy, Omar Sheika, Felix Trinidad, proved nothing in my eyes.
I respect Joe Calzaghe for retiring can't fault the man, for retiring at the top. I would of liked him to have fought Chad Dawson or ETC. But as people have said in the past there will always be a challenger for him to face, and that is true.

Calzaghe has a big ego and wont want to chance a loss now, knowing hes older and has been out a few months and has decided enough that he has anounced a retirement, he wont come back, or at least has no plans to.
Unless......
The super 6 winner, which wont be for a couple of years yet, really becomes a star and offers Joe a big wad, id say like 10 million to make it worth him thinking about it, there is the chance the tournament falls on its face and the only oponents id see Joe coming back to fight if they emerged as stars are Abraham or Froch, hes done Kessler and neither Ward or Dirrell seem to have enough of an attraction, whereas Abraham might turn out to be a bit of a wreaking machine and Froch is such a priick, people would love to see Calzaghe slap him to bits but it would have to be up at light heavy at least.
The tournament winner might even fight Dawson and then you have an eliminator to fight Joe;D
Going by pictures of Joe, he hasnt really let himself go out of shape, he may be ticking over knowing the right offer might come along;)

Joe will fight the eventual winner of the super 6.

well if Chad Dawson keeps winning he could wait say another 18 months and fight him if he's got a couple of more decent names on his record..
Then the super 6 would be nearing an end and he could then face the winner of that.
If he were to win them two possible bouts he would surely then have nothing left.

My big disappointment with Calzaghe is we didn't see a rematch with Kessler, to me that would have defined him more than anything else. I'm not convinced he would have beaten Kessler a second time, Calzaghe had an opportunity to be part of a famous boxing trilogy.

Don't agree about rematch with Kessler. It was an entertaining competitive fight, but in the end Calzaghe beat him quite clearly.
Not sure he needed to prove it again.
