When will there be another great heavy?
I've always been a fan of the lighter divisions myself becuase i like to see speed, combinations and all out wars which are more prevelant in lighter weight fights. However, until a new great heavy steps out this talent ridden division I dont think boxing will ever be at the level that it once was. I think the heavy weight division is essential for the overall popularity of boxing. There is noone currently who fits the bill. Does anyone know of any great prospects to look out for? I mean serious prospects, not pretenders. I know a lot of people arent high on him but lennox was the closest thing weve had to great champ in a while, and he hasnt been around in some time. Please.... somebody save us from this era of heavyweight gloom!

I guess Wlad doesn't do it for ya. He has pretty much cleaned up the division and I believe be there for a long while.

Well lets be a little Frank here. The best heavy's in history have always been African American. The problem is that all the good athletes are now playing basketball, football, etc etc. You can be a nobody in baseball and still make a $1mil/yr. It's a much tougher road in boxing. Only the top guys make that kind of money. The US amateur program is a joke. That why they don't medal at the Olympics anymore and that's the reason the eastern Euro guys are dominating the scene right now. Better amateur programs, better coaching. It might be a while becasue the heavy's have never produced many all-time great fighters.

I think thats a good explanation. The great athletes are playing other sports.

When Vitali will retire and that Wlad will have unified the title, the missing mark will be filled to crown him as a great HW.
