Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
Former world light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, 45-2 (32), could make a return to the ring as early as the start of next year if current negotiations with Juan Manuel Marquez, 50-5-1 (37), prove successful.
After his recent two round loss to Manny Pacquiao, many thought Hatton's last bout was behind him, but after a guest spot as a host on a WWE show in Sheffield, Hatton said he was eager to get back in the ring in front of the fans again.
Juan Manual Marquez last fought against Floyd Mayweather Jr, and lost a one sided decision, although it should be mentioned that he moved up two weight classes for the fight.
Hatton would enjoy a similar size advantage, and despite his recent losses, would probably be the favourite going in.
Promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy went on record to say that the fight would probably take place in Manchester, and would be contested at 140lbs.
Marquez is also still in the top ten pound for pound fighters in the world on most lists, and would be an impressive scalp for Hatton to add to his... Full Boxing Article here...

Oh no... here we go again. Are we going to have to endure another round of Hatton rantings about how, if he beats JMM, he's top ten p4p? 'Cause if you ask me, he'll never be within sniffing distance of any such lists. JMM will embarass him, IF.... the ref disallows clinching, mauling and fouling tactics.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
Marquez is smaller and older and Hatton is pretty much 50% the fighter he was at his best, it should be entertaining. I'm also in agreement that his 'P4P this and P4P that' talk got tired a long time ago.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
it would be interesting in so much as they're both at the end of their careers. Hatton better get on the SlimFast if he's going to make 140.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
It'll last longer than the Pacquiao fight but ultimately Ricks going to sleep.

Yea Ricky's best days are certainly behind him, probs at his peak in the Oliviera fight leading upto KT. But i guess he's after one last swan song and who better than a smaller world recognised opponent, hey why not Mayweather does it nearly every fight :-X  ;D
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
Marquez will pick Ricky apart and stop him half way through imo.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
This is crazy. Ricky is about 14 stones right now. He's gonna have to cut off both of his legs to go down to 140.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
Interesting fight but will do no good for JMM's career, although I do think Marquez gonna stop Hatton the way Marquez obliterated Juan Diaz.
If I were Marquez get a belt in the junior welterweights and make history as the 1st Mexican fighter to win a 4th division title. Then maybe just maybe challenge PAC for a rubbermatch.
Re: Boxing Perspective: Ricky Hatton In Talks With Juan Manuel Marquez
it will be a good fight both like to brawl.

gonna be a great fight for 2010..
a complete 50/50, marquez has the had speed and the technique, hatton has the raw aggression and the awkward style.
Would take a very brave person to pick a winner on this one!!

Marquez doesn't have tremendous hand speed..in fact Ricky's is probably quicker. The difference in this fight will be boxing IQ which Ricky's is in minus figures compared to JMM.
