How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
Good aint really the word...
It was close after the first 6 or so rounds but then Hopkins took it down the stretch from what I hear. And still entertained a Roy Jones fight after
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
Still looks like BHOP. He really tried to let his hands go at times, still the same inside rough housing tactics. Ornelas was a live dog and there was some good action.
The following was not a shocker Raul Caiz Jr 120-109 lol ;D
The only thing that bothers me about watching BHOP fight is the same thing that bothers me while watching Favre QB. We hear the fact about how old they are every two minutes.
BHOP want's Haye? I think it's a little too late to go Heavy at this point and time. But what do I know about BHOP? He still continues to impress at 44 ooooppps there goes the age thing again ;D
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
I thought Bernard looked like his usual self, good performance overall imo.
Bernard started slow which made the fight competitive early, To me it looked like Bernard was trying to get a few rounds in to shake the rust off.
After round 4 Hopkins upped the workrate and took over.
This wasn't a boring fight either, Hopkins took more chances than normal and his workrate from 5-12 was pretty decent.
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
He started slow but then after round 5 just pulled away he dint look bad considering he is a 45 year old who hasn't fought for 13-14 month
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
i had Hopkins taking every round but one after the 4th so basically 9 rounds to 3, and IMO came very close to stopping Ornelas last night, he looked good, but also Ornelas wasn't stupid and held a lot to not allow Hopkins to load up on shots after he felt that overhand right over and over, but B-Hop fought well on the inside and IMO beat the guy clearly, just not 120-109 clearly
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
He looked good thopugh I think it was more shots absorbed then known to be by the caliber of opp he faced Ornelas is not a world beater but managed to land some hard flush shots....
Hopkins is still world classs without a doubt,,,,
When he retires lets hope he does not open a travel agency...The people would never know where they will end up
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
Ex looked solid as always controling tempo and forced Ornelas to fight his fight.
I'll say that as much as it was your typical Hop fight that I saw him get hit with more fush shots then I'm used to seeing. Ornelas did his best and looked better on the inside then one would expect. He got the better of Bernard on more then one occasion.
What I'm wondering is how he's gonna get Haye in '10. Correct me if I'm wrong but there's a rematch clause in the Valuev contract and a mandatory with Ruiz, no? I could be wrong about the rematch clause but I thought so. If that's the case then Haye is sewn up throught he better part of '11 and I can't see him fighting for a HW bid at around 47 years old. I mean, if he wants his career ended by one of the Klitschkos then I guess he's earned it but that's exactly what would happen. I think a HW bid is a bad idea at this point. Hop has nothing more to prove.
That being said, I'll say that the man still has a year or two in him. He still takes virtually no damage in the ring with very game guys and at virtually 45 can still wear down a 20 something with surprising ease.
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
Well I fell asleep at about the fifth round and I had Orenlas winning 3 to 1 to that point. I was shocked it looked like B-Hop was extremely slow. Than I started to watch the fifth and I was down until the Junior Seau show. So all and all I couldn't really give anything except he looked slow in those first four rounds. I'll probably watch it tonight.
My man Danny Garcia is looking very good though on that undercard. I believe now he will step up the competition and we will all get introduced to this youngster. Great speed, power, ability and alot of amatuer expierence. De La Hoya has been saying his name quite often latley. I think we will a star from Philadelphia in another couple of years.

I think Garcia is a good prospect. Good pop. I found him to be rather flat footed but I'd like to see him against someone who doesn't drop both hands everytime they throw something. He's got good potential. It was an enjoyable opening bout.

It is very funny though. Seeing Danny when he was 17 not a facial hair yet on his face, and was really making sparring partners who were men look like fools. I am just glad to see he is starting to get some air-time.

I'm liking Garcia alot man. Watched most of his fights lately and will try catch that one. I have heard a rumour from a guy over in the states though that I shouldn't get too excited about him but who knows.... I like him up to now, he's one of my fav prospects along with Danny O'Connor and Dean Byrne...

Danny O'Connor is easy to get excited about! I'm with ya on that one. Being from Mass, I'm able to catch his fights from time to time. Really good young prospect!
Re: How Good Did Bernard Hopkins Look Last Night ?
I just watched this fight i thought it was a typical Bernard Hopkins performance, i agree with you guys that he probably lost 3 out of the first 5 rounds, or maybe 2 rounds with 1 round even. Because Bernard Hopkins did get beat on the inside a few times.
But Bernard Hopkins did make an adjustment, and then he just cruised to victory after that. He did land some very nice counters, and he was on the verge of stopping his man in the 12th IMO.
All in all a decent warm up fight for Bernard Hopkins, who didn't have it all his own way. Which is what you want to get some rounds in.
