40m Away from the end of Roy Jones Jr
So i sat for 4 hours in Acer Arena, Sydney to watch one of the greatest of all time. I sat through 3 undercards that nearly put the whole crowd to sleep, 2 not too bad fights and then it was time for the main event.
Crowd was going off, all of a sudden everyone stood up as Roy Jones surprised the crowd as he came out of a different entrance tunnel to what we expected. He looked calm and unfazed by the crowd.
Then land down under hit and the crowd was turned green by the lights and everyone broke into a chorus " I COME FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER" and it was nearly deafening. As it came time for the national anthems the crowd began stomping their feet as the whole arena rumbled. There was not one person in the crowd who did not stand or sing the national anthem for australia (was enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up).
Then it was fight time, DING DING......DING DING....it was over. Roy Jones Jr had thrown around 5 jabs and that was it as he got caught in the corner and glancing shot to the temple had floored him. He looked alright once he made it back to his feet but just couldnt seem to hold on or fight back and the ref was forced to wave it off.
I was one of the thousands that had to leave straight after the end of the fight as I could not bare to watch the replay of a legend being finished in a matter of minutes. I didnt care if Roy lost but I wanted to see at least 5 rounds worth.
In the end it was disappointing because no had expected that outcome and most fans had actually turned up to see Roy Jones, I guess on the plus side the atmosphere was awesome.

I was going to get tickets too, although I'm glad I was broke at the time (and still am), because as a Jones fan, I don't think I would've gotten my money's worth.
I'm not originally Australian, and not a particularly big Danny Green fan, so his win wasn't too inspiring to me either - not to take anything away from the Green Machine. Still, the fact that Jones even came down under is good for Aussie boxing.
Jones should have retired after the Ruiz fight. He starched himself to come back down in weight and that was evident after the first Tarver fight. He could've hung up the gloves then. But alas, he's a fighter and he just didn't want to quit. For that, he racked up a few more losses and did some damage to his legacy. It's a pitty Bhop never got the chance to show that he was the better fighter in the twilight of their careers, but oh well. We've still got young Jones highlight videos on youtube. :D

Reminds...
To think I was going to pass on buying a car, because I was going to spend the money on tickets to PBF vs. ODLH...
I made the right choice in the end. ;D

I had a feeling to stay home and not to bother this time, think it was the Wed night thing that put me off too.

Seems like a bad time for 40 year old ex-champs. Oleg got splattered last night trying to get to a big fight again also. And in the first round. too. Oh well shit happens.
