The purpose of Round-by-Round
I noticed recently (last night as a matter of fact) that many of our distinguished posters have somehow strayed from the idea of the round-by-round using the concept to comment on the excitement of a fight or the effort a fighter is putting out.
The reason we do round-by-rounds is to let people know what is happening in the fight in a factual manner eg "Round 4 (insert commentary/ big events in the round)" and then you list who won the round and then the up to date score eg "Round 4: 10-9 for ____ & total score 40-36 for ____".
So for me and for anyone else who tries to check on how a fight is going from their blackberry/iphone/etc while they are out at a bar or simply away from the computer PLEASE post the scoring and don't flood the thread with opinions about how fucking lazy Kevin Johnson is or how boring the fight is, I really don't give a shit about that I want to check the God damn scores not the opinions of posters that are readily available on other threads, but whatever you do just for fuck's sake post the God damned scores you lousy cocksuckers!
....thanks for letting me rant but holy hell that was frustrating
Re: The purpose of Round-by-Round
Lyle, the thread you're talking about specifically says that it is a "discussion" in the title, therefor people are going to discuss the fight and give their opinions on it in that thread. Nowhere does it claim to be a rbr. It's extremely helpful to have one thread where people can discuss a fight as its occurring and during the immediate aftermath and it helps keep the board uncluttered. If you don't like it then don't read it, but don't try to tell people they can't discuss a fight in a thread dedicated to discussing that fight.
Edit: It's also fairly easy to find a round by round by doing a google search if you can't find one here. I found one for the Klitschko fight in about 10 seconds.
Re: The purpose of Round-by-Round
I think they are important and a must,as far as blow by blow and round by round.Good point. Not knowing what is happening during a fight sucks in a big way.We do fairly well I believe but sometimes the adult beverages catch up and it gets random....or the fight just blows.Awesome job this weekend with the stickies being put up and a general gathering spot for people to keep track of things.Feel free to roll one out yourself btw hoss ;D;)
Re: The purpose of Round-by-Round
I'm sorry if it was inconvinient for you, but if something happens out of the ordinary, I'm going to give a smart ass comment. I understand this is a boxing forum but if I was sitting around watching a fight with some people, I would be making the same comments. Isn't that what we're essentially trying to do with Round-by-Round? Discuss what we see/hear also?
If Malignaggi showboats for 30 seconds instead of going for a K/D, an announcer messes up, Lennox Lewis talks about his career for way too long on the air, Malignaggi trying to look cool by talking to the announcers mid-fight, etc. I'm going to make a comment.
Some people joke around with each other cause we're supposed to act like we're hanging out watching a fight. We're not professional analysts, or in a formal setting, there's no reason to keep the RBR strictly just the technical aspects of the fight.

Tell me you were drunk when you posted this Lyle?

I believe the ***SPOILER*** alert gives it the equivilent of RBR status...if you're going to have a spoiler alert you HAVE to give the result, how difficult is that???
C-LO you have valid points and I don't care if people give their opinions as long as they are either preceeded or followed by the results. That was my whole beef with the thread that was blatantly and deliberately marked with a spoiler alert.
Greig...dude, I just want to know how the fight ends up when I can't watch it and I think our posters here at Saddo's are good enough and smart enough to just give me (and everyone else) some results after my many years of service to this forum.

I wasn't the one who put the spoiler alert in the title, but that is in no way indicative of a rbr. I assume it was there because people were discussing a fight which had already taken place but had not yet been shown on American television.
Again, if the information you are looking for isn't here, it's not hard to do a quick search to find it. I found a rbr of the Klitschko fight in literally a couple of seconds.
You can't tell people how to discuss a fight or give them shit for talking about a fight in a thread dedicated to doing so, that's absurd.

discussions and side comments in rbr thread are unavoidable. it's the responsibility of each member not to flood the rbr thread with those things. one comment every two or three rounds from a certain member is i think acceptable.
Re: The purpose of Round-by-Round
Quite simply....we need Wacko back
Think its important to distinquish between a member who crafts a thread for a rbr purpose.Makes a big thought out intro and breakdown for the purpose of an in depth rbr.Constant rants and postings can slow it down and when its a biggie we at times are already dealing with server issues and a slow pace............other times a Mod will simply put one central thread,a free for all so as to not have 5,6 threads on the same thing bouncing around...and well, who doesn't want a place to gather and hash it out.Shite....its really not such a serious uptight issue. If we're not clear on whats going on,ask questions, request a breakdown in those types of threads. Not only is a fight, what we love but its often the end of a work week and an atomshere for many members who dont come around too often and others that might as well call it a second home :-X It can be the best of both really, live it up.

While I love Wacko and would be overjoyed to see him return as a regular poster, we don't need him for RBR's. While he is undoubtably the all-time greatest RBR'er to ever walk the face of the earth, other posters have at times done an admireable job in his absence. As I recall, we had two separate ones going for Ward - Kessler. Anyone who wants to step up and give it a shot it welcome to.

Fair enough...was more a voice of respect. You know far more than myself....dude is a legend and a pillar of Saddos! Many have stepped up big time.Ive thrown a few but cannot supply enough code-breaker devices for some;D.We're good to go and many members contribute, good service for those out of the loop. Its a none issue and think this weekend was well done with stickys. If it wasn't Vitali it may have never come up;D
Re: The purpose of Round-by-Round
I can understand your frustration but seriously. Sometimes you can't see fights man, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
There is nothng as frustrating as being on here during a big fight and you're in the thread and a KO happens and 60 different people post "WOW!!!:o" or "That was quick!!:o" and you've got no idea who just got KTFO...;D
I don't think I'm owed a round by round. And I don't see why you think you're owed a round by round either.
