Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Golden Boy Promotions are claiming that Ricky Hatton v Juan Manuel Marquez is all set for 2010.
The website of Ring magazine - which is owned by Golden Boy Promotions one should not forget - is the source.
In a report on Paulie Malignaggi's victorious comeback against Juan Diaz (all three judges scoring it 116-111 for the flamboyant light-welter), the victor said he would really like a rematch against Hatton.
"However, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez said Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez have agreed in principal to fight next year."

JMM stops him in 9.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Rickys fights begin when he starts to lose copious amounts of fat in camp. Unless he looks serious and gets a trainer he actually will listen to he is just gonna come in too drained and get iced again.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
I'm probably in the minority, but I really feel that this is a fight which could go either way. I know that most conventional wisdom would lean towards Marquez, but he is getting older and he's been hurt by fighters with far less power than Hatton. Marquez should be able to convincingly outbox Hatton and I would think that he has the power to hurt him, but I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Hatton pull out the victory.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Hatton is deluded if he thinks he can win this fight. The best he can do is lose on points.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
i certainly wont be putting any money on who would win this!
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
If Hatton can get back into decent shape he will be too strong for Marquez and will outwork him imo.
Marquez slugged it out with Casamayor and Juan Diaz and they were both very competitive fights for several rounds. I would regard both as being practically shot fighters.
Hatton couldn't cope with the blinding speed of Manny and the technical brilliance of Floyd but Marquez is getting old, is more flat footed these days, is out of his weight class, and imo hasn't looked like an elite fighter since his fight with Pacquaio.
I think Ricky can win this fight, and actually have a sneaking suspicion if he got himself really fired up he could finish him with a body shot. I dunno, just a gut feeling.

I was thinking the same. Hatton has got to be pushing 190 lbs. By looks he is well above his usual 170 lbs. climb between fights. I think JMM wins anyway but with Hatton draining himself down to the little guys again will be horrendous on his body. Before the Pac fight Hatton said he will have cut more weight than he has had before but this time Hatton is definitely going to be cutting way more weight than he has ever had to. JMM is not the opponent to try that on. Hatton should take a soft touch first.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Word of caution: Malignaggi may not have the power to take advantage of the giant "OFF-button" on Hatton's chin. But JMM is a savvy veteran, and can hit a bullseye as well as anyone.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
good since this is a very good match-up.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Marquez doesn't belong near 140 but I pick Marquez's skills over Hattons size.
Let me include that Hattons punch resistance is declining and he would have to lose alot of weight to get down to 140. At this point in his career, his diet has caught up with him and against Marquez, it would show once again.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Marquez by KO. Neither Manny nor Floyd, nor anyone else for that matter, could put JMM away, but you think Ricky will be able to? And Ricky sure as hell ain't gonna outbox him either....
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
I think Hatton has a very decent shot at beating Marquez....if he hasn't slipped all that much. The Pac fight didn't tell us much because as it was only 6 minutes long, but prior to that he dominated Malignaggi in a way that even Cotto couldn't do. If Hatton has the hunger to get into tip top shape and give it his all, it could turn into a good contest.
My only concern is his current waistline. There is just no reason to get that fat, it won't come off any easier now he is in his 30's.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Hating Marquez staying at the weight...never should have been in the first place.Nearing the twilight and setting big name lucrative matches,ok.He'll have to be smart and box the shit out of hatton. He may not KO him early but Hatton will look like was dragged behind a speeding car on a bumpy gravel road when its all over.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Hatton mediocre ass is done. Only a fool would think he even has a chance. He's a knock out waiting to happen. I'm taking Juan and the under. I would take Rafael over Hatton's shot ass

I think Hatton is done too
Gotta ask you though, do you think Hatton gave Floyd a better fight than Marquez? He gave his all and got sparked but I can't think of a round where JMM looked dominant.
