Re: My random thoughts...
you can give agbeko a pass. he just had his last fight more than a month ago. it's not he's been out for ages. as for the defeat, he lost to the better man that night.

For Agbeko it was The what happened part that pertained to him.
Re: My random thoughts...
I think Quillin's got issues, doesn't seem to know his identity, thinks he's a slugger, then he's a boxer, and that's not it, I just think he's pretty raw and would have to make gigantic improvements to really become a legit beltholder.
Joel Julio has been found lacking when he's stepped up but there's no reason he can't be a gatekeeper.
The ones that stand out are Ponce and Rock Allen. So Ponce lost, so what, its not like you had to make some massive reappraisal of his abilities after that fight, he is what he is, a rough crude guy who's just not gonna beat some guys but if you are really lacking in some areas, defense, mental toughness, chin, etc. he will find you out and therefore should find his way back into the mix.
Rock Allen I can't say I love as a prospect but that's no reason to disappear.
Re: My random thoughts...
Hope you're right about Pirog Mick since he's Macklin's mandatory. I've heard that fight will be in Birmingham and I'd pay good money to see Macklin get KTFO again.

if darchinyan and yhonny perez can have a fight, we will have a clear answer.
Re: My random thoughts...
Allen had a pause in action when Naazim, his father, got sick and he just came back a year or so ago. Still, it's very possible that he might just be burned out after boxing literally all his life. He's also been in a couple camps as a sparring partner instead of keeping busy with fihgts.
As for Quillin I completely agree with OumaFan, he's never found his identity in the ring and a lot of questions were raised about him in the Dinisio Miranda bout. To me, Quillin isn't going to make it as a boxer like in that bout. He didn't have a lot of amateur bouts and his best attributes are all physical, his speed, athleticism and raw power, he should be crafting his style around that but it seems like he's digressed a bit.
Joel Julio was working with Mark Breland and Pernell Whitaker for a bit and for a short time he had the fluidity and the jab that he seemingly lacks now. Could have been something but he's still going to provide the power that'll test a prospect's chin.
Agbeko just fought a better boxer then him and still gave a good showing. I'm not sure I think much differently about him now then I did then. He still has balance issues, he's always going to be there to be outboxed and Perez is just an excellent fighter.
Dimitri Pirog is OK. I don't think he has the tools to succeed at the next level.
Re: My random thoughts...
I'll speak on Jesus Gonzalez my local guy, he was scheduled earlier this year to fight Richard Gutierrez (the guy that rocked Angulo) fight time came Gonzalez couldn't make weight and the fight got cancelled. That fight was scheduled at 154. Later in the year he had a fight scheduled at 160 he got sick and couldn't make weight for that either. It's so frustrating because he had such an amazing amatuer career 151-9. I mean he beat Andre Dirrell for christs sakes.
Arizona needs another champ, I don't know if Gonzalez can get his act together, he definately has the skills and the background, but does he have ganas? I doesn't seem like he does.
He is scheduled for a fight in February against hot prospect Fernando Guerrero, we'll see if the fight even happens if it does it's on ESPN2 FNF.

Brahim Asloum really talented boxer, too bad he had the injuries plus the issues with the French network they just couldn't come to terms. Outstanding boxer no shame in losing to "La Arana" Parra and "El Huracan" Narvaez.
You can add Z Gorres here :(
on the other hand After the bout with Katsidis. Amonzot had 3 fights this year despite the serious injury.

I remember LordsGym 1st turned me to Quillin.
So much talks about him and his fights.
I never really thought about his indentity guess cause I didn't follow him too closely.
However I think you don't win 25 bouts just because, theres def something there.
I personally think he bout the hype and just thought he'd cruise by.

Pirog has really good combinations.
But he needs to be composed similar to the way he fought Jantuah.
He needs to pick his shots and put punches together.

Well it's only a matter of time now before he steps in the ring again.
We'll see how that goes. So much talent it's a shame things have fallen off for him.
One things certain I'll keep posted on his return to the ring.

A farewell to Z Gorres also and may god continue to bless him.
Re: My random thoughts...
Interesting thread Mick.
One person I wonder about who seems to have disappeared is Jorge Linares.
A couple years ago and he was supposed to be a future superstar of boxing, now.....he's made no headlines in months.
I believe he lost to a relative nobody? Now he seems to have vanished, a bit like Roman Greenburg.

Well Bilbs, the fight just happened 2 months ago.
Surely you don't expect him to fight within 2 months.
IMO, like I said in a thread about boxers that get injured I think the injuries have gotten the best of him...
Re: My random thoughts...
Yeno who else has disappeared?
Yuri Romanov. The guy hasn't fought since he defended his European against Thaxton in April 2008. He gave his EBU belt up for an IBF title shot but despite being nominated to fight for the vacant title twice this year, it never materialised. I hear it was a visa problem that screwed that shot up. Shame really, he looked a quality fighter.
