Will Khan do a Naseem and leave Warren?
Will he jump ship sooner or later or what? Warren imo has guided him well so far but will the bright lights of Vegas win Khan over?
Hope he stays put.
Frank Warren is hoping Amir Khan does not suffer a bout of "amnesia" and remain loyal to the promoter who helped steer him to a world title.
The 23-year-old WBA light-welterweight champion has followed in the footsteps of fellow British boxers David Haye and Ricky Hatton by forming his own promotions company - Khan Promotions.
Warren has promoted all 23 of Khan's professional contests, the Bolton fighter having started his career in a blaze of publicity after claiming a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
Khan came back from his only defeat, a first-round knockout by Colombian Breidis Prescott in 2008, to land the WBA belt against Ukrainian Andreas Kotelnik last July.
Having stood by Khan when some doubted for his future, Warren insists their partnership has served them both well so far - and hopes it will continue to do so.
When asked whether the emergence of Khan's company could put Warren's relationship with him in danger, the 57-year-old said: "Look, whatever's going to happen is going to happen. You just hope that people don't suffer from amnesia, that's all I can say.
"I have delivered all I said I was going to do. When he turned pro I said I'd look after him and I'd make sure he wins a world title and I've done that.
"Now he could become a legend. Can he do it? I don't know. Will he do it with me? I think I'm pretty good at what I do and he's pretty good at what he does."
Dramatic slide
Warren hopes Khan does not follow the path of Naseem Hamed - the former world featherweight champion's career suffering a dramatic slide after he split with the promoter.
He continued: "Naseem Hamed was very good at what he did and I was good at what I did but, when he left me, it didn't work out for him and he went from being a very popular fighter to a man who was booed out of the ring and he regrets that and I hope that Amir doesn't get fazed by all these things.
"You have to remember 14 months ago he (Khan) was on the floor after being knocked out by an opponent they picked - the trainer lasted for one fight - so we'll see what happens.
"You can be very short term in this business and say, 'this is what I want and this is what somebody has told me'.
"But do you want a career? That's what it's all about. Do you want a career and at the end of it do you want to come out of it with all your marbles intact and with some money in the bank, and that's what he has got to look at."
Khan is due to make the second defence of his title against Marcos Maidana of Argentina.
The fight has gone to purse bids and more details will be confirmed next week, with Warren confident Khan can deliver again.
"We couldn't agree terms (for the fight) and we'll see what happens next week with it," he added.
"It's a tough fight for him but he's capable. Over the last 12 months he's turned into a different fighter."

Third... i got a bad feeling he'll jump ship, i think he'll be made a Massive offer by Warren if he beats Maidana though as that'll be a scalp imo.

I hope he does leave Warren. He may actually start to fight some worthy opponents :) Although... Maidana is a pretty dangerous fighter, definitely not a bad start. Have to say it surprised me to hear that Warren let something like that happen :O

I think it's inevitable he will eventually leave Warren as Frank cannot offer the fights in the States Khan will want, thats of course if he doesnt lose his next few fights, and makes a name for himself Stateside.
Frank has done a great job getting him to where he is today, Frank generally does, but once a boxer hit's the real bigtime, then Frank, unfortunately for him, doesnt have the clout to do the business in the States bar Naz of course

Khan is supposed to be after a contract from GDP or Top Rank but it's all gone a bit quiet about that and the only offer he has on the table is Warren's offer to fight Maidana. It may well be that GDP and Arum are wondering if he'll get Prescotted again in his first fight or two with them and have offered correspondingly unlucrative contracts, or contracts with get-out clauses in them. Roach has seen plenty of him in the gym and wouldn't risk him with a big puncher like Maidana and I'm sure GBP/Arum have got the rundown on Khan from people around the Wild Card and Roach. Maybe Warren is looking like a more attractive bet again to Khan.
Of course there might be an announcement tomorrow that he's signed for one of the American firms and that's that.

I've always wondered that. Wild Card surely has some up and coming fighters in that Gym. I wonder what they say about Khan when the cameras are off? I'm sure many would like to get in the wrong with him just to test his chin but to actually hear from some of the regulars that train at Wild Card would be interesting to say the least!

They do say he can hold his own in sparring with Pac and his the both of them are equally matched speed wise.
I agree that if he beats Maidana and takes a few good shots in the process someone will step in with an offer.
Also i think at a push Warren could get him the big big fights in the US (If he wanted or had to);)

You know what, on a serious note, this is something I have been thinking about for a while actually. I'm not racist, far from it, but I'm more than aware of how many fans have not taken to Khan, and I'm wondering how much of that is down to Hamed ??
I was a huge Naz fan, and I must admit I felt extremely let down by his actions post Barrera. Naz sold us all on the fact he was this, he was that. For the most part he backed it up in the ring. The acid test was how he reacted after the defeat. and the bottom line is he plain bottled it, and left all his fans high and dry. It's not that I jumped ship after his defeat, I would never, ever do that, but I was left severely disillusioned with his antics. Naz always stated he was a champion with the heart of a champion. Well, I agree with the first bit.
After following Naz's from early in his career, as a fan I felt very let down. And I must admit, alot of my illusions of him were shattered. The fighter I believed him to be would have rematched Barrera in a hearbeat. He didnt, hence bad taste left in my mouth.
I certainly dont want to get into a race thing here, but for the average joe who either disliked Hamed's cockiness, or even the hardened fan that was left bemused and a little upset by Hamed's post loss defeat actions. Do you think that Khan could possibly be receiving some of this backlash because they share the same ethnicity ? It is a fickle country that we live after all.

Can Frank not get Khan the big fights in the US cos he's asian ? - Not what i was imlpying - Frank DID get Naz big fights in the States, I just dont think he will with Amir, as I believe Amir will leave Frank for bigger bucks with either GBP or Top Rank.
Frank has got his fighters matches in the US, I just feel he will get paid more from the others rather than Frank and Amir will go down that route instead. ;)

Personally I dont think that has anything to do with Naz letting his fans down. I just dont think Khan has got the character or charisma to be really loved or respected like Naz or Hatton.
Also i use to work with upto 200 muslim lads they hated Khan with a passion, so the hatred aint all from non muslim people.

Dont think it is down to his ethnicity really or having anything to do with Naz, I think it may have more to do with the general british public whom more often than not like to build fighters up (post Olympics), then knocking them down once they reach heady heights and become succesfull. Amir didnt really do himself any favours the way he carried on after turning pro imo. Frank should have took Amir aside and done some PR work with him, ala Micheal Owen, took on Alan Shearer's PR firm and became Mr Cliche, yet also came across very well at such an early age. If this happened with Amir, then maybe, just maybe he wouldnt have had the haters he has now.
Also the fact he went PPV sooo early and got sparked by someone no-one had heard of didnt really help his public image too much :-\
