gloves
ok I had a few rounds with a heavy bag and a pear with handwraps only, now once I was done I noticed I was bleeding from my right ringers, I tore the skin off of the joint.
Is this because I didn't do the handwarps properly? or because I overused my right and underused my left? or should I have just worn gloves and not just warps?
also would you guys recommed orthdox boxing gloves (14/16 Oz) Over MMA boxing gloves? I ask this because the store I use offers both and they have three diffrent orthodox gloves (25$/50$/80$) and the MMA gloves (65$) and I only make about 100$ a month.
WayneFlinte-Sorry for being overly aggressive last time we talked it's a bit hard to explain but I tend to get very zealous when people think of me as the small, weak guy (I'm trying to change that) whom you can pushed around and won't do anything and thanks for the tip about checking out the Muai Tai GYM because the Muai Tai class is also a boxing class and it has reletily few members, though I probbly can't afford to join or even have the time to go there once a week.

Re: gloves
Think you either did the handwraps wrong, or simply hit too hard for them to protect properly.
About the gloves, we use MMA ones where I box for when we go on the bags. But I personally recommend using orthodox boxing gloves, just buy the 25$ pair and make sure they're a little heavy. You won't be wearing them for very long at a time, so it will improve your overall punching speed and power wearing orthodox boxing gloves because of the added weight.
Up to you though, if you feel more comfortable in the MMA ones, buy those, it's all about you being comfortable after all, not what would work the best.

Re: gloves
Get some 12oz gloves to keep your hands safe and when you box your hands will flow quicker because you will be using lighter gloves!;)

Re: gloves
Dont worry about it mate, you will find most of us are nice and willing to help and give advice on here rather than just ridicule and mock newcomers, and to answer your question yes you have tore the skin on your knuckle because of not using gloves, i would let it heal up first then get some gloves and get back into it, it might be a little painful to hit the bags now even with the gloves so it might be a good idea to wait till you heal up.

Re: gloves
I use mexican style hand wraps. It's longer, usually 160-180", and have elastic in them which makes them a little stretchy. I like the extra length it offers as it allows me to fold the bandage back and forth over my knuckles for more protection, and then wrapping in between my fingers so that it doesn't come loose. It doesn't rub against my knuckles like a regular 120" bandage would. I recommend it. You can find it in a lot of boxing/mma catalogs, but you can get it far cheaper here: Ambra Le Roy Medical Products Online Store
That'd be enough if you're just hitting the pear-shaped-bag, but I'd get a pair of gloves for when you hit the heavy bag. If it's soft-filled, you can get by with lighter, minimally padded bag gloves. If it's a little hard/stiff like most heavybags, I'd go with 12-14 oz gloves. I wouldn't get the MMA gloves, unless I planned on participating in any MMA. Although, come to think of it, they don't have the foam claw like regular boxing gloves which would resist your efforts to close your hand. That's a positive. On the other hand, boxing gloves have a little foam bar that you curl your fingers around enabling you to make a more solid fist.
