Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Golden Boy is working to finalize an Amir Khan-Juan Manuel Marquez bout for May 15 on HBO. "We are actively working on it," Golden Boy's Schaefer told ESPN.com. "Khan is willing to fight to him and Marquez wants to fight at 140. He told us he doesn't want to fight at 135 anymore." Marquez, the lightweight champion, would move up to junior welterweight to fight Khan, who holds a 140-pound title. England's Khan recently signed with Golden Boy, which has promoted Marquez for years. Schaefer said the two leading sites to host the fight are Las Vegas and Houston.

Maidana could fight Zab Judah on the undercard he has agreed to step aside aslong as Khan fights him after the JMM fight, so Khan keeps his title.
Ortiz/Campbell also could be on the undercard, if them three fights come off that would be special.

It will be interesting to see how this fight goes down if it happens. Roach seems to be shaping Khan into another Pac or at least trying. Let me be clear Khan is no Pac, that being said JMM was the most successful against Pac. I don't think Khan has the power to KO JMM or the skill to beat him. JMM is going to counter the shit out of Khan, not nearly enough experience. Roach/Khan might have picked the wrong old mexican this time.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
That's actually a pretty good card!!
I think Judah/Maidana could be an absolute cracker.
I hope it goes through ok, I would prefer Vegas over Houston for this, simply because I haven't seen a good decision in Texas in a while.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
I still think Marquez wins regardless of the fact he is at a big disadvantage with Khans size and speed.
Marquez has shown good power at 135 so i doubt 5 pounds will affect it. He is also a excellent counter puncher.
I expect Khan to have early success with his speed and movement but as the fight progresses the tougher more experienced Marquez starts to wear Khan down with body shots and sharp combos. Once the fight eachs the late stages, I see Marquez dropping Khan with a big shot, Khan makes it to his feet but Marquez jumps on the the attack straight away and the ref has no choice but to step in.
Just made a little story there. :)

Now that's actually an awesome card if true, we very rarely get those kinda cards anymore..
I actually checked flights to Vegas today when half contemplating Khan Vs Marquez but figured it weren't worth going. That kinda card might may me think twice.
This time last year JMM was being touted for PFP No1, now all of a sudden he's a gate keeper for Khan? People have short memories!!!
That said apparently Roach said months that Khan would destro Marquez..
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
It makes sense and is a better fight for Amir to fight JMM which is a bigger name. The Maidana fight will be bigger after his victory over Zab.

I wouldn't write Judah off at 140. It's his comfort zone and I think he could well be a force there again. I half hope i'm wrong because he's an arrogant little shit but I honestly see him being quite successful again at 140.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Marquez is an excellent fighter at lightweight (135 lb) & a horrible one at welterweight (147 lb). It would be interesting to see how he does at super lightweight (140 lb). But then again, it is hard to determine just how horrible he was because he was at a disadvantage when he was up against a superb boxer in Mayweather.

so if khan beats jmm that makes him top5 p4p? Nope. People have seen how slow jmm looked against floyd and see the same thing happening with khan. Jmm will have problems with khans foot speed and pitter patter flurries but i want to see what happens after 6 rounds.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Definately a very winnable fight for Khan. That said, I see it being a copy of JMM-Diaz where Khan will jump on him early on, and JMM will have better success as the rounds go on. Although Khan is significantly faster and more accurate than Diaz, so he might just be able to force a TKO if he does jump on JMM early on.

That does sound like a great card.
If Maidana can survive the first three or four rounds against Judah, I think he'd take him out (what remarkably insightful and unique commentary about Judah, I know).
I think Campbell should beat Ortiz, but it depends on how much he has left in the tank (which I feel is probably very little). He's one of my favorite fighters though and I'd love to see him get a few more big paydays. If he's even close to the form he had in the Diaz fight, I bet he makes Ortiz quit again.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Still leaning towards Marquez in a big way.Sail a ship through that class and experience difference.Maybe Khan will get lucky and have an early cut open up or something :-X.I'll take a JMM arguably being off a notch of best (that Mayweather 'fight' really needs proper perspective) over a still learning though improving Khan......I think Judahs on borrowed time and all prepped for gate keeper status.Looked frazzled over last couple and pretty catchable now. Face seems very thin and suspect to wear and tear more so.I think Maidana takes the predictable early round "oohhhs and awww" fast shots from Zab and then grinds Judah down in the late rounds....two different directions of momentum these two.....If I was Ortizs people I would not pick Campbell as a next up after his shaky psyche was seemingly exposed...physically Ortiz is HUGE in contrast and should jump Nate right out of the gate but the longer it goes the better the old very cagey vets chances are.I want Nate to win and mentally I think its almost a no contest,Nate is one of the most ring savvy fighters (save for Pedan fiasco's ha) going today....but I think Ortiz bounces back and Campbell wont be able to keep him off plain and simple.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Imo Khan is walking into a huge trap. He'll look good for the first 3 or 4 rounds but at some point he is going to have to stand in and exchange with Marquez, because he isn't a great boxer on the outside. With as reckless and as nervous as Khan seems, I really have a hard time writing Marquez off. I agree with Spicoli that those giving considerations to the Mayweather fight are in for a huge surprise.
Maidana-Khan is a tossup imo. Maidana is raw but has a hell of a chin and Judah could be shot  Judah KTFO though. It seems like Zab has been around forever, wonder if he can get out of the way of Maidana's shots enough to survive.
Campbell-Ortiz, that's another very interesting fight of which I have no clue on who wins.
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
If Marquez has maintained the same form he showed against Casamayor and Diaz, then Khan is going to get starched quite badly. I hope the fight happens. ;)
Re: Marquez v Khan nearly done deal for May 15th HBO
Khan doesn't deserve this oppertunity. He has done nothing to warrant being in there with a top p4p fighter. I'm sick of this bullshit that Roach is feeding us about how they want to build the Maidana fight. In truth, they want Maidana to get beat so they can avoid him like the plague. Khan's career thus far has been a complete con. It's bad for boxing. If ths fight happens, I truly hope Marquez lands the money shot and lays Khan on his back.
