Shumenov edges Campillo | Boxing News
Anyone see this fight last night? Campillo totally outboxed him. I had high hopes for Shumanov when I first saw him, and I thought he'd beat Campillo the first time, but seeing him last night made me realise that they have moved him way too fast and he's not ready for world level. I had Campillo a 116-112 winner. These dodgy decisions are getting more and more frequent.

That was a horrible decision I had it 117-111 Campillo, I know OumaFan had it 118-110 Campillo. I felt rounds 5 and 12 could have gone either way.
The rounds I gave to Shumenov and their explaination
1 - Shumenov was more active, not much got through, but Campillo was simply calculating the whole round.
5 - Shumenov landed a good punch that caused a cut on Campillo, a closer round and could easily be argued for Campillo.
8 - Campillo simply took the round off to recover after the high volume punching in rounds 6 and 7.
The rounds I gave to Campillo
2,3,4,9,10,11 - Shumenov started throwing full force punches for the first minute nothing on consequence gets through, Campillo starts jabbing mid-way through the round and can't miss, the last minute Campillo is landing combinations from all over the map, and actually moving Shumenov around.
6,7 - Campillo goes on the strong offensive with super quick combos there is so much blood on Shumenov's face you can't tell where it came from, Shumenov weathers the storm, but looks extremely shaky.
12 - Shumenov goes full force again, Campillo befuddles him with counter jabs and then skates to victory (You could make an argument Shumenov won this round too, but he still didn't land anything worthwhile)
After the fight.
Campillo casually stands leaning in the corner like he's waiting for a mojito, he defended the cut from the 5th round well enough it has stopped bleeding. Shumenov looks distraught and has to have the blood wiped off his face his left eye has some bad swelling and he moving very slowly.
The shame of it all is as far as the Light Heavyweight division goes, Campillo has much more to offer a variety of opponents, while Shumenov will only do well against people without good footwork.
I don't think this is another in a string of bad decisions, I think this defines what a robbery is.
A robbery's not Malignaggi-Diaz 1, Dirrell-Froch, Martiroysan-Ouma, and the countless other close fights that people around here scream robbery about. What we've seen a lot of lately is close fights where the promoter's boy gets ridiculously wide decisions, here we got the promoter's boy getting wiped out and still getting a wide decision.
You could say its the worst since Guzman-Funeka but that would only be the case if Guzman had gotten the decision. I am struggling to think of a bigger robbery in the last five years or so. I can't think of one offhand. I usually try to avoid the outrage with bad decisions cause it just gets old, its like being outraged when HattontheHammer says nutty things, or being outraged cause you have to breathe air, but this was outrageous and disgusting.
Well it looks like Campillo's people are going to protest. Not sure what good it will do, but maybe it will force the powers that be, to start holding boxing judges accountable for their decisions.
They also need to get rid of some of these old farts. Seriously, some of these judges are ancient, and I doubt that they can even see or stay focused on a fight well enough to judge it properly.

I haven't watched it yet. It has been replaying off and on all day so I am sure I will catch it sooner than later.
I think judges should have to write little reports on why they thought a fighter won a round, like a police report, just a few lines, to constitute their thinking.

GBP have full Stateside promotion of Campillo, whilst they co-promote Shumenov in association with his own promotional venture, similar to how they do with Mayweather. The difference with this fight and say Dirrell-Froch (which I had for Dirrell by a wide margin) and even Santa Cruz-Casamayor (same) is that in those fights the guy who won by a wide margin didn't really do that much, its just his opponent did even less/nothing, here Campillo clearly did more than enough in a lot of rounds and just punished Shumenov in some of them.
