Boxing mentioned in the Bible!?
Was just doing a bit of Bible reading (I don't pretend to be a saint, by no means), and I came across a verse in 1st Corinthians Chapter 9, verse 26:
"Thus I do not run aimlessly, I do fight as if I were SHADOWBOXING. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified."
Sorry, I know this is a bit off topic, but I saw it and couldn't help but post it.
I know there are different versions of the Bible, so they all may not read the same (shadowboxing may not get mentioned).
Re: Boxing mentioned in the Bible!?
Got curious and just found this reference too mate,
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
Also this one
That is the way I run, with a clear goal in mind. That is the way I fight, not like someone shadow boxing.
1 Corinthians 9:26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.
What next, ' and then I gazed upon Randy Couture who it was that appeared to me as a natural and thus I sent him forth to do my will as an amobassador of my church, the UFC'

There's a pretty good fight in the Iliad.

Re: Boxing mentioned in the Bible!?
Sorry to be the one who bursts your buble guys but somebody has got to.
Keep in mind that the original bible was written in an acient form of hebrew/ aramaic both languges that have long ceased to exist in our times.
While the text you've found are indeed amusing, and fun to coy with they're translations that we're made to modern day languges, now that usually makes the text lose some of it's context and higher meaning because of the way the translator decideds to inturporate the word.
My guess that shadowboxing wasn't really mentioned there and that it's just a modern day adaptaion to make the bible more availabe to the people.
And moses could just have screamed very loudly.
Re: Boxing mentioned in the Bible!?
^Yes.
Beat me to it, the Bible wasn#t written in English... the mjaority of it anyway. 'Shadow boxing' was probably just the closest translation of what ever was being said.
