Ahh crap...Dirrell injured during training...fight postponed...
Super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell revealed tonight to radio host Marc Lichtenfeld on his weekly “Through the Ropes” radio show that he injured his back earlier this week while sparring and will see a specialist tomorrow. Dirrell said he has previously thrown out his back and expects to be out for one week to two weeks. Nothing official as far as a new date for his scheduled March 6th SUPER SIX fight against Arthur Abraham on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, however a media conference call scheduled for Friday was cancelled. More will be resolved Friday.

On a positive note... Pascal is fighting Dawson... Hopefully with two good shoulders.

With a touch of chance it won't be serious and if the fight is delayed, it won't be by too many weeks.

It must have been while he was practicing his fall to the canvas move. On a more serious note, I hope he heals quickly and we get this fight going.

I was thinking the same thing. An article I read said he injured it in sparring. Sparring? Weights I have heard of and have done it myself with deadlifts... but sparring?

Re: Ahh crap...Dirrell injured during training...fight postponed...
Pretty inevitable...not at all surprised that he's done it before either. Dirrell doesn't move his head using his knees and shoulders to bob and weave his trunk... he bends down below the waist so that the only target you have is the back of his head... some people call it excellent head movement... I call it cheating.
If you spend all of your ring time bending at the waist like a chump then you're putting your upper torso in a position that is putting the spine in a very weak position and is seriously stressing the muscles of the lower back... in an uncontrolled way and outside of a safe range of motion - go figure.
Re: Ahh crap...Dirrell injured during training...fight postponed...
As reported Thursday by Fightnews.com, super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell injured his back earlier this week while sparring in Las Vegas, preventing him from training for his upcoming Super Six World Boxing Classic super middleweight showdown with Arthur Abraham. Dirrell’s injury has forced the fight to be rescheduled for Saturday, March 27, to be televised live on SHOWTIME® (10:30 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
“Andre saw a specialist and he is going to be ready to fight on March 27,” said Gary Shaw, Dirrell’s promoter. “I know Andre is deeply disappointed about rescheduling but he IS determined to resume training for the super middleweight division’s most compelling fight.”
Abraham’s promoter Kalle Sauerland said: “The most important thing is that Andre gets healthy. Arthur is ready to get in the ring with him and win the next three points in the tournament – no matter when and where. We look forward to March 27 and the next spectacular victory of King Arthur.”
Abraham, who has been training in the United States since February 8, said, “Of course I was disappointed when I first heard of the postponement, but I am happy to take on Dirrell on March 27. I want him to be in top shape so that he has no excuses once I am done with him. This is the Super Six World Boxing Classic, the best fighting against the best, so I can understand that he does not want to face me when he is not at 100 percent.
“My training has gone very well thus far,” continued Abraham. “I am in great shape and I will defend my tournament lead against him.”
