Retaliation in Boxing

Do you think it's stupid for fighters who get hit with low blows to NOT retaliate? Barring disqualifications, the only instance that comes to mind of a fighter not retaliating and winning was Mayweather-Judah. When Tzsyu went low on Hatton, Ricky knocked Kostya's nutts in half and went on to win. Vincent Pettway retaliated when Simon Brown went below the belt and also went on to win by stoppage. However, Vargas had all his momentum stopped by Trinidad and decided to do nothing in return and we saw how that ended up.

It is a very confusing subject. I don't think anybody should aim to cheat. With that said, i'm not stupid enough to think fighters dont do just that.

The biggest problem is risking a DQ.

But sometimes there are fighters who are losing & go ahead & do something shady to try to throw the other guy off his game plan. They figure its worth the risk of losing a few points.

Barrera is a fighter I remember doing this. Against Pacquiao he was trying to intentionally headbutt & even hit after breaks to try to throw Pacquiao off his game.

I wont say it is stupid...It is actually a show of class...I mean if your opp has to resort to dirty tactics to try and win it shows that you are doing your job and getting the better of him....And most of all everyone else see's it as well...He brands himself....

I mean if it is constant throughout the fight and it gets out of control with the ref not doing anything about it then hell yes get one in on the guy but dont be so blatant about it you get yourself DQ's but still after a certin point turnabout is fair play

I remember Barrera also retaliated against Hamed. They were in a clinch and Hamed hit barrera while being separated but Barrera quickly hit back and it was way harder than Hamed's punch.

I remember that...Didn't Barrera throw him to the canvas once too?

Pretty fine line but it at time exceeds the ref and rules.Guys have taken deductions just to get the point across to opponent.Some guys could care less and becomes personal...Pazienza vs Garza comes to mind.If it goes unchecked it may send green light to opponent,hey I'm a mark,have your way with me.Old saying is that the one to retaliate is always the one to be called on it,more noticeable.A foul should be called and discouraged but do see difference between a hip shot,shoulder nudge and arm twisting,bite,body slam etc.Truth is that there are indiscretions and rough housing...and then there are just blatant desperate b!!!tch moves.

Drag their front leg forward just slightly by hooking your front foot inside it, pull it out slightly and then move forwards and up with your knee while punching a high combo. "Oh Sorry man whoops, you alright?".

I remember Tyson punched Rudduck low and was warned by the ref, Rudduck punched him back low. That is the way to handle a low blow, do it back straight away, if you feel it was deliberate and the ref is not deducting points.

It seemed as if they tripped but when they were on the floor, Barrera gave him a shoulder to the face, a knee, and then a slap to his face while his back was on the mat. Then the referee separated them.

It was quite humiliating for a guy (Naz) who had a big mouth and was shut that night.
