Australias two gifts tonight.
One was the gift decision to Lenny Zaparanga over Fernando Angulo.
Angulo was the guy who used to run off from home as a kid and go live in the Jungle.
Tough fella, the younger Zappa was moving forwards and hittng him with some bombs and flush combos early on,he took the first 5 but then the experience and the will power of Fernando took over for all of 7 rounds and he made Zappa miss and pay dearly. There was a head clash, but the ref mistakenly nominated it by a hit, and zappa got a very nasty cut laceration over his left eye right through the eyelid;so that nearly threatened to stop the fight a few times from the 6th on.In the mid rounds the ref took a point off Fernando for hitting the cut eye on the break. First time no prior warning. :-\ 50/50 on that.
Was a hell of a fight though very tough ! with two men evenly matched in 60% skill only, but heart and will power over youth at the end of the day. But the judges scored it unanimously for the youth! who eventually looked like he had taken on a bus head on while the vet looked clean and fresh.
The last few rounds were made of both holding one arm and fighting with the other arm so it was let go alot. Zappa flurrying shots on the breaks that were glances at the best because he was drained, but still game. But the Ecuadorian Jungle boy made him pay harder with flush shots on the breaks and when he lurched forwards he was caught commming. So that was a gift to the younger man and the future interest he can generate for boxing in my book.
The next was the gift of a fight Given to Vic Darchinian on a platter to defend his two world titles against the young raw Rodrigo Guerrero who has the heart of all Mexico behind him and a Chin to match, Vic couldnt put him away and won every round. Still two judges gave two rounds to the mexican ??? fuk knows how! Vic walked over this poor 22 year old kid.
Vic gave the kid props and said I could not stop him !! , Vic then called out Nonito Donaire held up the belts and said "Here are the two belts come and get them or I have to move up in weight and take on some real champions."
P.S. :embarassed: I only bought this fight in cause it was only $ 29 .90.

Yes, good one Vic, we all remember your move up in weight last year (Agbeko) Forget it and keep calling out Nonito, he will come around eventually if he wants the money.
Re: Australias two gifts tonight.
I thought Guerreros corner should of stopped it before the 10th, he was just taking too many big punches. Its not the ones that knock you out that are the worry, its the ones you continue to take until suddenly your brain gives in.

I couldn't agree more.
His corner and the referee were wrong for letting it go on too long.
He took senseless punishment.
Why!?

Agreed he maybe spoiled now or worse.
There has to be only one answer to why: Mexico.
Re: Australias two gifts tonight.
Yeah I couldnt believe when Guerreros corner said "tell me how do you honestly feel"...fuck man it doesnt take a brain surgeon to realise the kid was excited about a world title shot and had been showing no signs of quitting so hes not going to say "ah feel like shit, he floggin the crap out of me". Also my worry was hes only young and has a whole career in front of him and a beating like that one is just something that can end a career or definitely influence it in a bad way.

Yes when the trainer said that I thought maybe he was gonna stop it. Then he just goes "Good good" and sends him back out there. Fucking bastard.
They said Jorge Arce has grabbed another title some how, so hopefully Guerrero can get a shot at that, as that would be a good fight and one he could win.
Re: Australias two gifts tonight.
I thought Zappa landed more. It was a very one sided call on the fight. But i can see how the judges gave the fight to Zappa.

I could see it that way if scoring as is done in the amateurs bouts with touches and glances being counted or maybe if counting over all hits that same way for the whole bout; but not pro round for round or on collective damage. Ah but thats me. Still I only had Angulo ahead by one point after deducting the point for the hit on the break. The crowd wernt impressed either from the reception neither were the commentators.
I sort of thought over all Zappa took the first 5 very clear, then it evened out some for a round and then Angulo finished the last 5 alot stronger than Zappa started out and Zappa didnt deal with it as well on the receiving end. Zappas energy went down after the cut.
Im going to have to watch it again now ;-)

I agree. The three announcers were practically acting as cheer leaders for Angulo. They collectively got it wrong and the judges got it right.
I thought Zappa swept the first 6 rounds. (He was just way busier and more effective). And he absolutely took the last round. The fact that the Steve Farhood scored the last round for Angulo just highlights the ridiculousness of his score card.
7 rounds to 5 Zappa.
I will agree though, when the commentators have formed an opinion as to who is winning the fight, it becomes difficult to maintain your own opinion.

Yeah i thought at least the first 5 went Zappas way and then after that there was some pick em rounds so I wasnt too pissed with the decision....plus Angulo came in over weight so that didnt produce much sympathy and they also said Angulo took it as an insult because Zappas corner asked him to lose more weight. WTF you agree to fight at a weight, so make the weight...dont really care if you took it on late notice, shouldnt take the fight if you cant make weight.
Re: Australias two gifts tonight.
You paid $30 for that, Andre you are going soft in your old age.
