Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
I know this is a fight that should have taken place at least 10 years ago but I am looking forward to it even though its going to be a bit like rubbernecking at the seen of a car crash.
I have never been a big Jones fan but I hope he can pull off the upset here coz Hopkins is an arrogant obnoxious big mouth with a chip on his shoulder.
Can anybody see Jones winning this?
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Of course.
Hopkins is 45 and can at anytime get old overnight. Thats the only way i see Hopkins losing though.
If Hopkins does come in like against Ornelas or Pavlik, He will beat Roy and clearly.
Jones legs are awful at this point, he can't keep himself off the ropes for a full round which simply isn't gonna cut it against Hopkins. You need to pressure and outwork Hopkins to beat him.
Jones chin is also a concern, Green didn't appear to hit him very hard but he got dropped quite badly. Hopkins hasn't got the power Green does, but he is more accurate and fast. Lets not forget that Hopkins was able to drop the durable Calzaghe and stun Pavlik a couple of times so he probably could get Jones out of there.
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Jones can win if he can turn the clock backward for one more time, otherwise it'll be a very disastrous result.
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Hopkins will win by TKO. Kind of sad to see Jones go out like this. I give Jones about a 2% chance of winning this fight and I also think Jones is 2% of the fighter he used to be........
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Absoloutely 0% chance
If you bet on anything other than hopkins on points you really dont know your stuff
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
I think he can. If he can handle Hopkins counters and avoid getting hurt he can outwork him for a decision. It's not all that likely, but it is possible. There's also the chance to Hopkins finally starts showing his age. I don't think Jones will win or even come close, but I won't write him off entirely.
I'd give him at least a 5% chance of winning based purely on the fact that HTH says he has no chance at all.
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
...who cares ?? It's insulting that this fight is even really happening. People complain about boxing and how the sport treats it's fans with all the sanctioning bodies, silly belts and what not yet there are those who still have any remote interest in a fight between a guy with a big mouth who can barley stay awake long enough to make a fight entertaining and has lost five of his last 10 most by ko and an boring semi impressive old fighter who out of his last 7 has lost three including a win over enrique ornales who isn't even the best fighter in his own family. And his case it's us that have the hard time staying awake. And the funniest thing of all they have the nerve to put this garbage on ppv ??? I'd pay to watch friday night fight on espn before i'd give this fight two dollars. As long as people support this type of crap how can anyone complain about what those in boxing do. People paying to see this are the main reason good fights aren't made and they can put any old card together they want why not people pay....guess i can't blame em in a way
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
If Hopkins sleeps under a draft the night before.

funny that sort of thing would bother you seeing how big of a Haye fan you are :-X
Jones gets stomped and stopped
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Hopkins should win it easily. But I don't expect it to be a early kayo, sinnce B-Hop doesn't fight the way Green fights and I expect Roy to win at least 2 rounds. Anyways , Hopkins should cruise to a late round knockout
but wait....
Should Hopkins be fighting Green? I think so.

I agree Hopkins should be fighting Green, or if Jones felt he got cheated by the gloves or whatever do a rematch.
At any rate a casual boxing fan in America would have this conversation (and this is a guarantee)
Me: Hopkins is fighting Green on PPV
Casual Fan: Who's Green
Me: From Oz, been on a tear for a while just stopped RJJ in 1.
Casual Fan: Roy is still fighting?
Me: Yeah, you wanna come over and watch
Casual Fan: Naw just tell me the result later.
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
This is a shit fight, but you can't blame Hopkins for not fighting Green. Green somehow believed himself to be worth a 50/50 split in the US. Probably the worst 'price yourself out of a fight' move I've ever heard.
As for the question, of course Jones can win. But he almost certainly won't. As critical as I was of this, I now find myself kind of hoping to watch it. It's just as well it's not PPV over here, because I'm one of those saps who would watch it.
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
60-40% to Hopkins hope Roy can beat him though :) I have seen some of his training footage and he seems to be in grea shape
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Current odds at William Hill
Hopkins -600 = 1/6
Jones +350 = 7/2
Re: Hopkins-Jones,can Jones win?
Yes I believe Roy can win.
He has to use his speed and combos to out work Hopkins from the outside and flurry when they get on the inside like he did against Lacy.
Also he must avoid the counter right hand of Hopkins, which Bernard will be setting him up for all night.
If he can do that then I think he can decision B-Hop.
He is STILL faster than Hopkins.
And Hopkins has not fought someone faster than him in a 5 years.
