the "trendy" brand invasion in boxing; A threat to the classics?
That's a question I have been pondering about lately, Reebok has a new website about reebok boxing in the making, introducing a lot of new boxing produces and they started sponsoring big fighters (Mayweather, Khan). Adidas is a step in advancing with a lot more produces on the market, they are especially popular in Europe with Huck, Abraham and a few others lesser known I've seen lately. So I was wondering; As these companies worth a lot more money than the traditional boxing providers, is there a danger that they'll eat the market like bad someday? I could easily, for example, imagine Nike buying Grant and manufacturing the brand new "Nike Grant model" boxing gloves or something like that. during the past 10 years, this intrusion is getting significantly more important and I wondered what was your opinion on that matter.
Re: the "trendy" brand invasion in boxing; A threat to the classics?
I'd see it as a good thing. Not necessarily for Nike. Buying Grant won't raise Nike's profile, but it will raise Grant's and boxing's profile. People buy stuff because the Swoosh is on it. You throw it on a boxing glove and someone's going to buy it just because.

It's just more revenue, I don't have a problem with it. When they start the RBC (Reebok boxing council) along with new interim title holders then I will be concerned.
Re: the "trendy" brand invasion in boxing; A threat to the classics?
Adidas has been doing it for years, at least with boxing shoes, Vargas wore Adidas in his fight against Trinidad, hell even Muhammad Ali was sponsored by Adidas, and i doubt very much that Everlast, Grant, or Reyes are gonna have any probs staying afloat

No but it was just an example, I could imagine most high profile boxers become sponsored by big companies which would require them to wear their clothes just like in Basketball or Hockey and I was wondering, if it happens, if it would darken the sky of companies like Cleto Reyes, Grant or Rival boxing for example.

It's certainly possible. Reyes, Grant, Rival and Everlast need to step up their own marketing games.

Adidas make great boxing shoes, I far prefer them to any other brand. So they've got a bit of history. Reebok also make some decent bag gloves (the big 16-18oz ones). I think the likes of Reyes, Grant & Everlast will always be fine, because the quality of their product ensures that people who want the best will go to them over the name brands. No one will ever be able to replicate the quality they put out.
Re: the "trendy" brand invasion in boxing; A threat to the classics?
The old brands are expensive as hell and quite frankly a rip off often times.
And if you buy anything from TITLE it takes FOREVER for them to ship it to you.
I prefer ordering from Ringside. They get it to me sooner and are more reasonable on their prices.
Incidently I just got the new TITLE catalog in the mail the other day and there are a shit load of new brands. The new CHAMPION BOXING tee shirts and sweatshirts look bad ass and are only 15 bucks and 30 bucks.

Adidas looks cool, all the Germain fighters wear the shorts and boots as well as the gloves.

I dont agree with branding. They are coming after athletes more and more these days for product endorsements. It is no ones business if I wear Nike Machomai shoes, available in 3 colors and I like for their comfort, feel and support. Available with 1 week free shipping.
Next thing you know they'll be having people endorse things they dont even believe like, the KFC new boneless chicken original recipe, made with only the finest white boneless, skinless chicken and seasoned with their famous blend of 11 herbs and spices. Available for order online at locations all across Canada and the US.
It's deplorable, really.

Well said.
Fuck the major corporations and their evil interests which care only to expand the market range.
