So they were just kidding about Brinkley/Stevens being an Eliminator
Interesting interview with Sakio Bika
Boxing: Q&A: Sakio Bika
Clearly the powers that be don't want Brinkley to have a title shot. He beat Curtis Stevens in an upset victory (probably his best performance to date) standing toe to toe with the slugger and even though his face got marked up he got the better of the exchanges dropping Stevens twice. That fight was an IBF title eliminator. NOW the IBF is mandating he fights Sakio Bika as an IBF title eliminator.
I have nothing against Bika other than his inactivity of late (and strange rejection of the Green Super Six eliminator), but this is garbage. Nobody gives Brinkley a chance against Bute, but he's earned his shot, give it to him. Brinkley would at least make for an entertaining fight and you know he'll be giving nothing but pure effort.
Re: So they were just kidding about Brinkley/Stevens being an Eliminator
I agree that it it was an eliminator he shoudl be number one but on the other habe Bute should not be fighting fighters like Jessis Brinkley, bute is on the verge on p4p status fighting the likes of Brinkley would be a big step backwards.

With the super six happening Bute is going to have to face the Brinkley's and Bika's. I mean he's fight middleweight Miranda next
Might as well let the guy who earned the spot, get the spot.

Bika is about 5 levels above Brinkley and so is Mirnada, Bika/Bute is pointless we have been there done that. But like I said he deserves his shot if it was an eliminator last time out, as bad as Calzaghe/Manfredo though a Bute/Brinkley fight.
Brinkley got beat off a corpse of Robin Reid who had not fought for two years a couple years back Bute v Brinkley is a bigger mis match you could get right now.

I think we are in agreement pretty much even though it's natural for me to argue with you ;D
The thing for me is, that Brinkley has earned his payday, he's not gonna get another shot at the top, so let him get paid for putting another highlight reel KO on Bute's resume. TBH he has improved quite a bit, his team formulated a perfect plan against Stevens and stayed collected to execute it through the whole fight. And Stevens has some real power, enough to put Dirrell on his bike even more than his Froch and AA fights.
Re: So they were just kidding about Brinkley/Stevens being an Eliminator
I have no idea why this is?.....Crazy...Unless we have all missed the little little little writing on boxrec under the fights that say....
this is an eliminator for an eliminator bout
Re: So they were just kidding about Brinkley/Stevens being an Eliminator
I'd rather Lucian Bute fight these guys.
Eduard Gutknecht vs Robert Stieglitz winner
Denis Inkin

Re: So they were just kidding about Brinkley/Stevens being an Eliminator
This is a disgrace, and it continues to be that way for the FIB. They are ones that create eliminators for the #1 position without calling it a title opportunity... Please remember they just stripped Caballero for not defending in only 8 months.
The 'WAB' are the ones who create four or five titles in one division. Right now, there are already two fwt champs and Caballero is about to fight for the 'Interim title.'
My favorite is the 'CBW,' because theirs come in all types of sizes and colors. Not only can you become 'interim' and 'emeritus' champ, you can get one in gold, one in diamonds, a little green one and a new model in silver! Now everyone can get one--except Brinkley.
