Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
Lately seem to always want to stop fights really early ?
I mean tonight with Caballero and Yordan, Caballero gets ahead and is throwing tons of shots but not really hurting Yordan, and by the 6th round Lampley and Merchant want it stopped ?
I guess its good to error on the side of caution and I agree by the 10th round the corner shoulda thrown in the towell but Yordan was landing some flush left hooks and overhand rights every round on Caballero and protecting his head will with his gloves.
Re: Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
Yordan's body took a serious beating. Getting hit that much is how you ruin a young fighter

I agree with you. But you have to keep remembering that they've never been in the ring before and may think its worse than what it really is. They were going on about it too early and too much and I wasn't seeing it like they were. Yordan was fine enough to continue.

ummm i'm pretty sure Emmanuel Steward knows what he's talking about, and i agreed that they should have stopped the fight, i'd rather have the guy live to fight for another day than end up dying from complications or end up in a coma like Oscar Diaz
Re: Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
Merchant was even more verbally constipated than usual. 2 minutes passed beteen each word. Ugh. Please leave NOW! :angryxo4:

Yeah cus I mean Yordan was getting hit clean in the head SO much.
The man covered up, and plugged forward and was gettin in punches every round.
Like I said I could see it being stopped by the 10th.
But not by the 6th.
They are professional fighters. They are there to fight more than 6 rounds. Especially when Yordan was blocking most of the head shots.

You're the only one who mentioned Steward. He was talking about Merchant and Lampley. And it was mainly Merchant. Merchant even asked one of the commissioners why this fight isn't stopped. And they were talking about the body punches. Not a lot of guys going comatose due to volume body punches. And Merchant was acting like the fight should be stopped in the first half. Did you really agree with that? Were you calling for early ends to head shots fights like Gatti/Ward, Marquez/Vasquez, Lacy/Calzaghe, Castillo/Corrales, etc. Even if you were okay with it being stopped later into the fight you have to admit Merchant had jumped the gun...then kept going on about it.
Re: Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
Lampley is just outrageous now. He's borderline comical with his constant defence and trumpeting of the favored house fighters.I'm not sure where he got his medical degree or his amazing ability to diagnose serious injuries while sitting ringside based on merely what a fighter says to his corner man but its reckless and unnecessary.Berto expresses pain, his corner says oh it hurts and within an instant Lampley is talking in terms of Berto tearing tendons and dislocation with certaint, etc.Call the fight Lamps and stick to punches that LAND....by BOTH guys...dont worry so much about covering guys backsides because they are having a tough go of it at times. Its just cheap.....Poor Merchant literally lost himself in mid sentence a few times. He makes some good point but arriving there seems like its a choir.
Re: Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
I watch the fights with the sound off now.
Merchant as been losing it for a while now. I really started to dislike the guy a while ago... with his side anecdotes and analogies that never quite stick, contemplative dramatic before pauses and laughing at his own jokes. Even at that, I suppose he is still less annoying that Kellerman.
Letterman is pointless putting his spin on things.. "I gotta tell you Jim, the way (insert HBO fighters name here) keeps moving around the ring to avoid the action and frustrate his opponent is masterful, blocking those jabs with his face to save his hands for later is BRILLIANT! "
Ever notice how the one guy that actually knows something about being in the ring (Foreman, Steward, Etc.) has to endure this questioning and hazing BS from those other guys.
At least Lampley left out the BANG BANG BANG BANG stuff this time...

Steward was even saying the fight should have been stopped, and yea by the 8th i was pretty much thinking the same thing, why have the kid take that sort of beating when it's not even competitive
and who said that it only has to be shots to the head that merit a stoppage, Caballero landed dozens of hard vicious shots to the body, mainly on the backside of Yordan's ribs, no doubt the kid probably pissed his own blood, difference between Saturdays fight and Gatti/Ward, Marquez/Vazquez, and Castillo/Corrales is that those three fights were all highly competitive, don't see how you could even compare them to the one sided beating that was Yordan/Caballero and Lacy/Calzaghe
Re: Has anyone noticed HBO announers...
I thought it should have been stopped by the end of the 8th, however in defence of the referee, there was never a point where he could have stepped in and stopped it. It was entirely down to Yordan's own corner who I think let him down by letting it go on so long. I just hope the kid isn't ruined because he can be a tremendous talent.
