What/who next for Danny Green?
I started a thread with this title after DG beat RJJ. I explained how I thought DG's anihalation of RJJ would actually hinder any progress he could make on the world stage as he was a high risk/low reward fighter to fight outside of Australia.
There were mixed answers on that particular thread with some saying DG's stock are as high as ever now and that big fights would come his way.
That was 5months ago, and DG's next "big fight" after Roy was a tough travelling x world champ in Manny Siaca. And after these credentials I still wouldn't classify this bout as a "big fight".
DG destroyed him in 3 rounds, so again I have to ask you guys out there what next for DG?! I'd imagine B-Hop is well and truly out of the picture and won't want any of Green, but the commentators down here still seem to think that DG will get some big fights in the cruiserweight division around the world! I'm not too sure, for one I can't think of any big name that will step up to fight him, and DG doesn't like to travel as he feels he is worth every penny here is Australia. My guess here is DG will still chase a rematch with Anthony Mudnine as this is his best option financially and probly his best opportunity to avenge his 2006 loss to "The Man".
On a side note, alot had been made about Roy's allegations about DG's hand warps and most of it was put towards Roy being a bad loser. It was even brought up here as a thread. And though most of us do tend to feel that Roy was just making more excuses for the loss someone pointed out that after fights, while almost every boxer takes their gloves off immediately after fights, DG and others who may have loaded gloves (eg. Margarito) keep them on. I never noticed this observation till looking back at some of DG's fights and even tonight, while Siaca's gloves were being removed in the ring immediately after the fight DG kepts his on, and kept it on right through post fight interviews, photoshoots etc.
Whatta u fink guys, who nest for DG and are his gloves loaded or is he using illegal had wrapping tape?
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
A half decent dawson, pascal, diaconu etc takes him to school
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
But unfortunately those top calibre fighters won't get to beat Green's ass up! Tbh man, I just want sum1 2 beat him up coz he finks he's the baddest man on the planet right now!!!

First off, Danny Green is MUCH more marketable now post Roy Jones KO than he was before. He's not a high risk, low reward fighter, he's a reasonable name guy who will be able to cash in on the win soon enough.
The reason he has had to have a low key fight is because he fights in a division devoid of big names, and those that are there are fighting each other or don't want to fight at that weight.
B Hop for example wanted Roy Jones win or lose, Green certainly wasn't on his radar at all before the Jones KO and he's not too keen to fight him now, although it's probably several hundred times more likely than if he had not faced Jones. But Hopkins clearly wants to hand pick his opponents according to his own plans and Green is unlikely to be part of them.
Aside from BHop there are only two significant names at 175, Chad Dawson and Jean Pascal, and they are both scheduled to fight each other.
Provided Green doesn't lose beforehand the chances are very high that eventually one of them will look his way, he'll get a big fight out of it providing he wants it and doesn't slip up in the meantime.
But the idea that beating Jones will prove a stumbling block to a career that he had already retired from is just silly. Prior to Jones the most famous name on his record is a defeat to Antony Mundine, and then two more defeats to Markus Beyer.
He was a virtual unknown outside of Australia and on nobody's radar. Now he's at least emitting a faint beep.
Finally big fights don't always happen overnight, Calzaghe became a star when he demolished Jeff Lacy, but followed up that win with a fight against the then unknown Sakio Bika, and the reality star Peter Manfredo.
But his big fight future was still assured, he just had to wait for the time when he got in the ring with Kessler, Jones and Hopkins.
Green, if he keeps winning, and doesn't retire will get his shot, and it will be because he knocked out Roy Jones.
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
He needs to get over to the States and base himself there for at least 6 months, no point hanging around Perth going to the football and hoping the phone rings with an offer. He needs to lift his profile in the USA and that means 2 or 3 fights in succession quickly. He isn't getting any younger, he should fight again mid June or July at the latest in the US with the idea of fighting for a major title by the end of the year. He weighed 180lbs v Siaca, can he still make 175lb? Green has fought only 4 rounds in less than a year, time is his enemy and fighting bums like Siaca will get him nowhere.
Forget Mundine, he is a washed up nobody and is now powderpuffing at 154-160lb so it's the US or bust for Danny Green.
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
Why not Sakio Bika ?
Or maybe a comebacking Paul Briggs ?

I think they'd be 2 credible opponents. Alhough its a bg step up in weight for Bika.

Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
Not sure about green, but since siaca lost to him doesn't that qualify him for a shot at a major fight on ppv. Isn't that the way it goes ?? Or do you have to get ko'ed in the first the justify that....
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
if he plans on staying at Cruiserweight, the only big fight there is Cunnigham, and well i think he gets beat, but well he could always drop to light heavy and see how that goes
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
Green vs Cloud would be a thriller.

I thought he was at cruiserweight?
Cunningham is the man in that division. Green is a name now. Get it on.
Re: What/who next for Danny Green?
Danny has to call out B Hop and go to the USA to do it otherwise stay in Aus and have meaningless fights and retire rich.
