Demetrius Andrade - "Tell me i'm the best"

I watched him on Friday Night Fights the other week and frankly wasn't impressed. I know he's been tipped for big things and he had a great amatuer career. I read a feature on him in Boxing News a few years ago but then didn't hear much of him until the other week.

Anyway his technique looked a little pitter patter and a little wild which surprised me. I mean he was only facing a journeyman at best and at what point, between rounds, he actually ordered his Dad to tell him he's the best, which i and Teddy Atlas found odd.

What's everyone elses thoughts on him and how far he'll go?

I don't know, there could have been to much made of that comment, it was odd though. He was getting taken rounds in with a guy who didn't represent any sort of step up in competition. They seem to get him on TV enough but honestly, what good can fighting guys like the one's he is fighting. He's 22 and it's been suggested an immature 22, when he says that against a guy who seemed as if he wasn't presenting much of a threat, it's a tad bit possible that's true.

Yeah it sounded like he doesn't have confidence to go with his ability. The guy was smack-talking to Andrade aswell.

How far do you think he'll go?

I don't know, at some point you have to move them up the ladder as a pro or these lapses he seemed to have at times last fight become habit. The competition has been a joke thus it's to early to tell. He has 10 fights but really given the competition.

He has as many tools as you can ask for though, he's a southpaw with a great jab/right han, he's tall, fluid, puts punches together beautifully, above average speed and he has good instincts. I think you can only grade on potential without being to hard on him these first 10 fights, he definitely has as much potential as anyone. Just sad that the best opponents he has fought outside the gym were 3 or 4 years fighting internationally as an amateur.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on when the competition steps up.
