I think he should retire too. He's hardly become James Toney, but there comes a time when it's just right to stop and Mosley has reached that juncture. He's had a great career and should enjoy the rest of his life, maybe do some training.
I realised at around the 4th round that this wasn't the Shane Mosley from years gone by.

I watched Mosley's fights with Jesse James Leija, Wilfredo Rivera and Adrain Stone last night. The difference in speech was alarming to me. He's starting to slur his words. I had noticed it a little in the 24/7 series. But didn't pay it to much mind cuz I was pretty much fukked up when they came on. I know Mosley had just fought 12 rounds. I know he's not really a natural talker. And I will admit to smoking some shiit that was pretty fukking potent. So it could just be me. But nah. The way he fought. How easily he gassed. The way he looked between rounds. Something was wrong. The post fight interview confirmed it to me. That ain't Shane Mosley no more. It's time for Mosley to retire.
Well, the Forrest fights took a lot out of him. He got tagged pretty hard by Vernon - god rest his soul.

But he wasn't slurring his words than. Now he is.
Re: No longer wish to see
shane looked pretty good tonight i thought. it's true that he's not the fighter he once was but he fought a good solid fight. he appeared to be super tense through the first two rounds and expended alot of energy doing nothing and was gassed through the middle rounds. but he hung in and dug deep and tried to pull it out the final rounds. he's not the king of the division but he's still top 10 (if not better). i don't believe that he looked like he was getting seriously hurt. hopefully he's banked some money over the years and doesn't feel like he has to keep fighting for financial reasons. but there are top level fighters that i can see him taking in the future if he wanted some more paydays. berto. a rematch with cotto (after he destroys foreman)...
Re: No longer wish to see
Lets be honest. There could be many reasons why Mosley was slurring his words and looked fatigue...
It could have been the drug testing and the weight he lost. He even said it in the 24/7 final episode when the drug testers surprised him. He said his mouth was dry for cutting weight, and he said he could barely give a urine sample. Mosley was probably weakened by the drug testing, probably more weakened than Mayweather. Mayweather is very strong physically and can handle the blood testing because it doesn't take anything out of him.
It could have been the layoff.
But realize that a little over a year ago Shane looked very impressive and he turned back the clock. But part of that was because Margarito didn't look good himself and didn't tag Mosley like Mayweather did.
And the #1 reason why Mosley was slurring his words and looking fatigue is because of....
Mayweather. Mayweather hurt Mosley in the face. Did you look at the HBO punch diagram? Mayweather only landed a few body shots. Most of Mayweather's punches were head shots. Mosley's face was swollen since the 3rd round.
And the superhuman thing about Mayweather is that Shane did some good body work int he early rounds, but Mayweather's body is so strong that it didn't even phase him. If anything in made Mayweather more flat-flooted, which still worked out for Floyd because then Mayweather started trading with Shane and hurting Shane more frequently. But the body shots Shane landed didn't seem to hurt Mayweather.
What is Mayweather's Achilles heel?
Re: No longer wish to see
Yup. This sport aint kind to the warriors. Fans love it, but the warriors pay a price for us to enjoy it.
Shane was a warrior in there tonight, and the 2nd round was proof of that. But from the start of the 3rd, it was not the same fighter any more. He was already gassed, and while Floyd was adjusting, his years and past battles surfaced. he had little more to give. He was coming forward now and not throwing. what? Better yet...why? He just about took PBF out with it, why oh why? Because there wasn't anything left. It's that simple. He gave all he had and was not prepared for a man in the peak of his life, and on top of the sport. 5 years ago, who knows. We'll never know.
but much respect to Shane Mosley for giving it all he had in there tonite. And when all was said and done, he was just trying to make it thru and be standing for us for the final curtain call. And that he did. And got beat by the better man tonight.
He made a good paycheck tonight, and gave us all a lot of great memories and footage to think about for years to come. But time to bow out gracefully. I thank you Shane Mosley, for doing all you could. Now go gently into that good night.
Re: No longer wish to see
Mosley is still a top 10 welter. It's the interview and word slurring that bothered me. Early warning sign. If I would see him in person i would tell him straight out to his face. "You need to retire champ. It's over". Shane is one of them fighters I would hate to see end up like Meldrick Taylor. Ricky Hatton? Edison Miranda? I could care less. Hell I would tell Hatton to his face he still got it and can easily win a title at 168. To give it a go. "What they say you slurring your words Ricky? Nah man. They hating on you. Don't listen to them. You just tired from eating so much. You the man. Chad Dawson ain't got nothing on you. Go get him champ".
Re: No longer wish to see
I hope this is Mosley's last fight, also. Props to him for having a great career. I guess it's better he ended it with PBF instead of getting into a slugfest with Manny Pac.

Since you brought it up, you're right I did notice the slight slurring of words in the 24/7 series.
Shane should retire, been in too many wars, gave the fans his all and got that last big payday.

It's the way it is. Boxing is a cruel sport. Watching Shane tonight and comparing him with the one I saw last night taking apart a good fighter in Leija. Stopping Rivera and damn near decapitating Stone. And it's not even close to the same fighter.

I gotta agree bro..
Re: No longer wish to see
We didnt see the Mosley interview in England and only got part of the Floyd 1 cuz transmission failed.
What excuses did Mosley give for being so poor? Did he hint at retirement?
