Favourite Boxing Drills

Hi folks,

First thread i've made on here so hopefully it doesn't bomb and will be helpful. Not sure if any of you's will remember me but I used to be a pro and got to the top ten at super feather a few years back. Never quite cracked it but i'm still contemplating another bash.

Anyhow,I work as a personal trainer but a lot of my clients love boxing training and some of them are actually getting pretty good. I like to giove them different drills to improve footwork, punching power, speed, technique etc and whille i've got lots of my own that i've picked up over the years i'd greatly appreciate if some of you could share some of your favourites and most useful.

Please state, what you call it; basic instructions on how to perform it and of you remember where you originally got it from.

For example

Bag Change Drill (England Squad adaption)

Most gyms have more then one bag, number the bags (for this example 1-5). Boxer works bag as instructed at irregular or regular times the coach shouts out an alternative bag number. Boxer makes their way to the bag as quickly as possible whilst obeying correct footwork principles.

The idea is to keep the workout fresh and challenging throughout the three minute round leading to a greater output and thus not just hitting the bag for the sake of hitting it.

In addition the boxer will have to stay sharp and will improve their footwork by constantly being on the move and having to think quickly to navigate themselves to the new bag.

Exercise stations can be utilised too.

Its a really good one. Try it.

One drill I like, and find helpful and kinda fun that we do is tie a rope off in the ring on the bottom rope, from corner to corner. then back across to the middle of bottom rope in essence making a V shape. Then having the boxers jumping over the rope to between the V, to the other side, doing different motions as they do, plus throwing in a roll under it at the end. This runs for 3 mins.

Then tie the rope the same way, but on the top rope, and have boxers practice slipping and punching, left, then right, as they move thru the rope.

In each case, depending on how many boxer you have it should be a tiring exercise and help with practice for footwork, as well as slipping, and gives the cardio a go as well. I wouldn't do it with more then say 6 boxers at once.

No idea what its called, but maybe one of you guys do.
