Graduate debts 'could rise to £40,000' under Russell Group plan - Telegraph
That sounds incredible to me. I had to borrow money to get through university. But to graduate with 40,000 quid of debt is truly insane. See, they bail out the banks quite merrily, but when it comes to supporting the middle/working class who did nothing wrong, they'll throw you out just like they did to American students and working people.

This would happen just as I'm going to uni. How does rising fees make for higher quality education? If they scrapped all the pointless degrees so the focus of spending was diverted onto 'real' courses then the quality of education might increase. Just more evidence of how messed up this country is getting. What an elitist view for these people to think increasing fees would be beneficial

The British educational system is a farce anyway. If you are non-white, non British and you pay enough, you will graduate. We all know this. I had a fun thread last year about such a topic.

That's the point, the quality of education is much the same. Is the education of today better than mine of 10 years ago? No. But the costs are getting higher. Much more so.

TBH university is a waste of time for your generation. You have no jobs. A massive amount of debt to pay back. You are going there because the bullshit system told you you should. You were had. Don't fall for their shit.

As a graduate I think studying for my MA was very worthwhile and sert me on my path, but my BA was worthless and really a waste of money. If everyone can find a focus and study hard for their MA then cool, but I think most BA/BSC programmes are bollocks and to charge people the earth for them is a disgrace. That's just the truth.

Thats the problem. I'm going to uni because..well I don't really know why. i worked it out that I could have debts of around £19,000 when I come out. With this now that could rise even higher, especially as I could be going to a Russell Group uni. I read a thing a while back that the average graduate now only earns around £5,000 more per year than someone who didn't go to uni and just got a job. Is it really worth it? Probably not, especially if thoes who go come out with huge debts. I think if anything the quality of education is regressing. The whole system is a farce
