Cotto and Emanuel Steward: Better late than never.
I just KNEW we'd see a new and improved Cotto tonight. Yeah.... Cotto!!! He needed to can that poor excuse for a trainer (Joe Santiago) and get himself a professional. Nothing personal against Joe... but business is business. Cotto needed someone who would TELL him when he was doing stuff wrong, and correct it. If he's smart, he'll stick with Emanuel for as long as he decides to continue fighting.
I might be stepping on a long limb here... but I'm of the opinion that had Emanuel been in Miguel's corner for the Pacquiao fight, Miguel would've fought a smarter fight and the outcome may well have been in Cotto's favor. Pacquiao is fantastic and I take none of the credit away from him. But Cotto's jab in the first couple of rounds was clearly snapping Manny's head back, and... had Cotto stuck to that game plan, it would've been a much more competitive fight.
But oh well... that's water under the bridge. If Cotto WANTS to continue fighting, and sticks with Emanuel, the future is bright. Although, to be honest, I'm not yet sold on Cotto as an elite 154-pounder, even though he IS the new champion. He's a little short for the division, IMO. But if anybody can make the necessary adjustments for him to dominate at 154, it's Emanuel.
Go Cotto!!!

i completely agree, IMO the Cotto that fought last night would have gave Pacquiao all sorts of problems, his jab looked much improved (and it already looked good against Manny), he showed patience of old, and great movement, and finally brought back that killer left to the body
Re: Cotto and Emanuel Steward: Better late than never.
It is Manny's speciality over the last 10 or more mnyears to take on good fighters who have had a hard time or are slipping due to just a few things that need to be changed or tweaked.....EG- Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko...
Should be a good team assuming they stay together

Yeah but DLH and Holyfield were with him for a very short time...Holyfield actually had problems with Steward due to the Kronk Gym....He would not work out there when it was open...The heat and confined space was too much for him to train in...Manny loves to train his guys there for fights.......
