Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
I just read this on Dan Rafeal's blog. Even the promoters know the WBC is a joke.
"It's a joke. I know it's a joke, you know it's a joke, the fans know it's a joke," Arum told me the other day.
So I asked him why he would allow it to be part of his promotion at all.
"Hey, it doesn't cost me anything," he said, although he acknowledged it would actually cost him "a few thousand dollars."
"I'm not promoting the silver belt," Arum continued. "I'm promoting Chavez and Duddy. You don't hear me announcing the silver belt nonsense from the rafters do you? It doesn't bother me, but I'm not a phony that I'm going to promote it like it means something. That's the difference. I'm not using it as part of the promotion because I don't believe in it. I don't even know what the f--- it is."
Re: Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
It's all garbage just a few years ago we were complaing about 4 belts per weight class mostly, now thanks to the greed of the sanctioning bodies it seems those 4 belts have literally multiplied into 20, so the 20th best fighter in a weight class can be world champion of something somehow...its a scam, sadly the casual fan has no clue.
Re: Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
lol. You know its bad when the promoters turn on it.
Re: Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
Clearly the inmates are running the asylum.Would be good to have a key charlatan oops I mean promoter, take a stand and stop trying to have it both ways.
Re: Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
Good deal, the WBC took it a step too far with the 'Silver' belt, the WBC itself can't even explain what it is. Hopefully Arum stands with other promoters.
Re: Bob Arum's thoughts on WBC silver belts...
Sulaiman is great. I hated him a lot at first but now, I deeply like him and it's genuine: matter of fact, the guy crawled his way to the top because he knew that it was the only way to destroy the building from the inside.
So he played the hardcore line, managed to dumbfully be elected for life in order to have all the time and space necessary to discredit the WBC and then contribute to sink it to the bottom and we've never see it come. What a genius;)

That was what was printed on record....
Off record Arums words were..
"I don't know what it is, mI don't care what it is, I may not use it as my promotion highlight for bouts it contains but I will make a shit load of money off of it:D"

No, and he claims he only used it at that fight because the WBC was giving it away for free.
However, he rejected the second diamond belt that was offered for Pac Clotty, because they were trying to charge him 12K for it.

I think it might be a slight bit better. At least with the "silver" belt you know by the name "silver" that it is not the top title. Whereas interim and super titles confuse who is the real champion and dilute the significance of the real World Champion.

Actually I got a kick out of the "Super" world champion belt....I mean WTF is it supposed to mean?......The champion is good but this guy can protect the arena from dangerous Villains while defending his title?......
I swear they will come up with anything....Whats next?....
The WBA world champion everywhere but Austria...
The WBA kind of Super world champion but after thinking about it he is no more super then anyone else
The WBA Not Super but better then World Champion because this guy can juggle on his ring Walk
The WBC Stationary title
The WBC Bronze title
The WBC Civil War commemorative USA Civil War Pewter Chess set Belt....
I am beginning to believe they all sit in a var drunk and come up with these things as a joke just to see what the public will actually let them make money off of....

I'm surprised by this statement. I didn't know that Bob Arum is capable of telling the truth.
