George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
He momentarily looked troubled when caught in the first. Hit the guy with everything including the kitchen sink yet didn't even wobble him. Thought the stoppage was OK because the guy was never gonna get the nod but he could have made it to the end.
I think Groves has cloned Haye's style too much. He doesn't throw enough punches for a super middleweight. Don't think he clumps as hard as he thinks.
Thoughts?

I genuinely think a lot of journeyman fighters in the states would probably be at a similar level to most British or on the odd occasion European champions.
Was definitely wobbled early on with that temple shot, but he did ok afterwards. Looks like he lacks something to me, though to be really top class.

I don't think you need add anything to this analogy , it pretty much says it all.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I haven't seen the fight. I've seen him look impressive against low level Brit fighters but then I've seen Daniel Jacobs look outstanding against better quality US fighters. Let's see how he looks in a few fights against a decent level of opposition. Him and De Gale both have a lot to do to convince me they can be anything better than British/Euro level.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
He threw some good combos, but he's another one who thinks hes a prime RJJ. He keeps his lead left low, and he can get away with it against these guys hes currently fighting cuz hes quicker. I think its a lazy habit, some say it helps their speed, but I think it helps em get knocked out.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I hope Groves builds himself up for a big domestic showdown with Degale.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
Hard to tell really if he has the potential to become world class. So far I think De Gale looks better but I thought Groves was very good at the MEN in april. I think his being rocked on saturday was down to him being caught cold and underestimating his opponent. Also nerves could have played a part, it was a big thing for him to fight in Vegas for the first time as it would be for any non american fighter.
It'll be interesting to see where he is in 12 months.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I think his wobble looked worse than it was, more a balance thing.
Anyway, he will probably learn more from that one fight than DeGale has in any of his so far. Be nice if they meet at Brit title level let alone world-class.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I think De Gale will be the real deal, Groves will fade away.
I also think De Gale has had tougher fights recently

Tougher fights?
So far Groves has fought the dangerous Paul Samuels, Adamu for the Commonwealth title and fought in America against a guy that's recently mixed it with Dirrell and Lemieux.
DeGale ain't been clipped yet. And even his win over Horton took a few knocks when Patrick Mendy took seconds to beat him in prizefighter.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
Ummm, maybe your right.
I still think De Gale looks more classy and has more skills.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I think Groves maybe under estimated this guy, I don;t no if he is world class probably not but I would have money on him to beat De Gale if they fought next week.

Same here, not sold on DeGale, nor do i like him either.
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
I'm the opposite, I actually like De Gale and think he will do well. (not sure why)
All my mates think like you guys though ;D
Re: George Groves-vs-Mexican road sweeper (on Marquez undercard)
So far Groves has the better matchmaking and has had some toughter fights on paper then De Gale but I think De Gale is stepping up now fighting Dilks next is a step in the right driection as Groves's hardest fight to date on paper was Adamu and in my eyes and alot of other Dilks was robbed against Adamu.
I think De Gale Smith should happen if he gets passed Dilks.
