John Murray given WBC Eliminator shot..
Lightweight: Antonio DeMarco, from Mexico, has been appointed mandatory challenger for the division and champion Humberto Soto is free to make a voluntary defense until the month of September and then must fight the mandatory challenger. The WBC has ordered a final elimination bout between Daniel Estrada, from Mexico versus John Murray, from Great Britain.

Just looked up Estrada on youtube and checked his record, looks a lot better than anything John has fought but that wouldn't be that hard to be honest, I was actually thinking the other day I think Murray needs to step up his level and quick no point getting yoursefl into a World Title shot against thre likes of Soto and the best test prior to that is a old Jon Thaxton. So I ma happy for this fight as will give Murray a really good test and a jump up ion compitition he needs to test himself with.
Re: John Murray given WBC Eliminator shot..
haven't seen murray fight yet so i can't comment on him but i've seen daniel estrada fight on a few occasions and i think he's a really good fighter. he certainly likes to mix it up and has solid power on his punches. the only thing i would say negatively about him is he tends to get hit a little too much. i've seen him hurt badly but regroup and ko his opponent next round. another thing, he has good height, reach, speed and is pretty rangy. it should be a great fight!
Re: John Murray given WBC Eliminator shot..
Murray is a lot better than Kevin Mitchell and not as good as Ricky Hatton, but handled right he could become a champ with one of the belts.
Re: John Murray given WBC Eliminator shot..
looking over murray's record, he has fought and beaten fighters with good records. i also noticed that he's 5'8" while daniel estrada is at 5'10 1/2". does anybody know where this fight is going to take place? i would guess either in england or in mexico.

He has fought average opponents in truth, some of it his own fault ( not mving on quicker ) his best win was v Thaxton but Thaxton looked past it the fight before and in reality was 18 months to late. Murray who I like alot was getting badly outboxed by Lee Mccalister until Murray's will and determination walked him down, he also got a dodgy decision agianst a journeyman.
Murray needs this test, I think he falls short at the very top. Him Katsidis could be fun but dangerous, I think he beats Kevin Mitchell aswell.

Pretty much agree with everything here.
I always thought Murray would be too much for Mitchell but I think he would be well beaten by any legit world champ around at the minute. Murray could well improve yet, but at 25 as a lightweight you'd expect him to be reaching his peak in the next couple of years. I wasn't massively impressed when he fought Buckland and I expected a much easier fight for Murray.
