Introduction - Kirk Lawson

Mr. Nagel has posted my repub of Edwin Haislet's manual here. Many thanks to him for letting me repub his copy.

My interest in boxing is old school, pre-Marquess rules. London Prize Ring and earlier. I am an active member of the "Western Martial Arts" community and focus mostly on 19th Century. (I still practice Judo actively too, however. <shrug>)

Part of my hobby is republishing antique martial manuals from the Western tradition including, as important to this forum, old school Boxing manuals.

BTW, I will say that my interest in the old style of boxing, let's call it "Classic Pugilism" in order to differentiate it from the modern evolution of the sport, is mostly for historic interest. Yes, it's good. Yes, I think it has potential (with some modification) for SD. No, I don't think it's particularly useful to have an argument about "who would win, an old school boxer or a modern boxer."

Frankly I think modern boxing is great. Just not my particular area of study. :)'


P.S.

Yes, I train and teach "Classic Pugilism." No, I'm not aware of any modern "Prize Fight" competitions in the old style, bare knuckle, rules. No, Classic Pugilism is a different rule set from the bare knuckle stuff you will typically see posted on YouTube. :)
