Hopkins Vs Toney @ MW

Been looking back at when Toney really was a great fighter tonight in preparation for his fight with Randy Couture later on, and one fight that I'm sure has been looked at before on here but never happened that springs to mind is a fight with B-Hop.

At the moment I am not voting as I am totally undecided on who would have won had they met at middleweight which I believe to be both men best weight.

I'm going to go away and watch some fights involving both but I'm not going to take the Jones fights into account simply due to the fact that, yes Jones did a better job on Toney BUT he had a broken hand when he fought Hopkins and still pretty much dominated, just not in the same fashion he did against Toney.

I think MW toney is too active and beats bhop on points...

In bursts Toney is the more classy fighter and his handspeed would catch the eye but over 12 rounds Hopkins is more consistant. They are well matched but theres 1 area where Hopkins is clearly superior and thats discipline.

Gotta agree with the discipline. I don't think Hopkins will ever weigh 237 or look at all fat for that matter. I think a lot comes down to pride too, Hopkins would be too proud to look like Toney did last night.

I'm still undecided as to who would win at MW though. Toney was in good shape in those days.

I agree on discipline and endurance. They about killed Toney to get him through the weigh in and then he looked about half there in the fight. I think Hopkins would have won clearly.

Good shape? Well he may have looked it but that because they had to put his fat ass in a human size food dehydrator to shrink him to MW from Cruiserweight.

I wouldn't mind seeing this one now at heavyweight. It's better than RJJ fight. Both are old and slowed down but neither have been ko'd. Not like they are pressure fighters either so it could still be interesting.

I think after a few weeks of thinking that the Toney that beat Nunn would just and I mean just beat Hopkins!

I hate to admit it but I think Hopkins refusal to 'play ball' or effectively fight to his own tune would ultimately dictate the fight.

Toney at his best wins but he was not always consistent and got some lucky decisions.

I think Toney is the better fighter. He would be bigger and stronger at middleweight and he would beat Hopkins on the inside where I think he could make the fight.

At middleweight i favor Hopkins.

Prime for Prime it is very close but i give Hopkins the edge because of his ability to make his opponent fight at his pace and being able to fight at your own pace gives you an instant advantage.

I also give Hopkins the edge with footwork, he is abit more slicker with his footwork than Toney and he would use it to his advantage.

It would of been a great technical fight if it happened, unforenately it never went down at 160 or even 168.
