How much longer can he go on training and training well?
It's well known and very obvious he has Parkinsons, the disease not only effects your speech, but plays havoc with your motor skills. Surely this cannot be good for the fighters he trains if he is getting slower?
Fair play to him for carrying on, but surley he can't go on forever?
Does anyone know much more about Roach and his illness and how it effects things?
Its a good question I think perhaps 5-10 years will just about do it for him as a full time hands on trainer but I think he'll stay active in the gym and be kind of a guide, he'll still "train" fighters, but I think it will be more in name only.
After Pacquiao retires Freddy may be burnt out for a while.
I'd like to see Freddy give us another World Class heavyweight before he stops training at a high level.

But right now, he's got no choice but to keep on keeping on. Or else his parkinsons will progress at higher rate.
I read an interview not long ago - can't remember where - in which he stated he believed his work as a trainer helped stave off the effects of the disease somewhat. Honestly, though, there probably is a rapidly approaching limit to how long he can continue.
5-10 Years is a big range. In the last two years along it looks like he's slowed. It may be that his symptoms are more pronounced when he's been on camera but I think if his symptoms are getting worse because I'm starting to see them when he's holding the mitts. He might continue being a trainer but I don't think he will be able to continue holding the mitts for more that :(2-3 years, but only if the symptoms are kept at bay.
It is quite hard to say, Parkinson progresses very differently from person to person and Freddy is quite living a healthy life. I didn't notice any slowing down as per his pad works but I did notice in the face to face with Margarito team that he was shaking a bit. Also, Roach's Parkinson is more or less controlled by experimental medicine, how effective are they? Not sure at all though but it's not the kind of stuff the common of mortals have access to. I also know that there is a lot of very promising treatments about to hit the market quite soon about Parkinson and IMO, it might not bee too late at all for Freddie to benefit from it in the middle run just in time to resume his trainer's career and to not have to call it a day due to the disease.

I hope Roach goes on for years and years, the makings of a great trainer, who was taught by a great trainer.
The longer he is here the better the treatment will become. Its just a matter of which wins and when to make the decision to go in. I Hope it is the new procedures they are fine tuning, that eventually has a big win for him.Quote:
