Do you have a coach or anyone who can show you?
If not, recognize that anything someone can quickly write here will likely be inferior to the good books and videos that are out there already...
Try MyBoxingCoach.com for a video -- the owner (Fran) visits here and will usually answer question in addition.
Read the Dempsey book, and others you will find in the "Important Post" sub-forum.
That said: Get your feet and stance right. Weight slightly rearward and throw the back hand while maintaining that good stance/balance by turning your hips/waist/shoulders and sending the arm STRAIGHT out to the target, using the turn of the rear foot (from tow out to heal in line straight at the target) to delivery power all the way from the back foot through that chain of your body to the hand.
As to the "haymaker" it is so easy to block that teaching you to "do that" would likely not be in your best interest. It has one advantage, if you do manage to land it then it has a lot of momentum/power, but there are other (and better) ways to get that advantage without (most of) the disadvantages.

but i would still like to learn the haymaker because of its massive power
The Bolo Punch is the most vicious punching style technic imo.
you want to learn this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Saqhy...eature=related ?
ya i got one for you. tie a rope that is about eye level from one end of a wall to the next. In your stance go straight down the rope bobbing and weaving from each side of the rope. it might sound dumb but it works great.
Pay careful attention to exactly what Gramm wrote, "go STRAIGHT down". When squatting to duck avoid dropping your head and shoulders forward or even bending forward at the waist -- go down with a straight AND VERTICAL back when practicing.
There will be times when you lean or whatever but most of your squats should keep your shoulders directly over your hips.
Most people can do this easily for a few inches or more, but as the squat deepens then lean further and further forward -- sit down in the butt and say vertical.
RELAX to go down (you cannot pull yourself the floor) and Power Up.
Throughout all of this you must maintain foot placement and good balance.
