Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
I think he should of gave Katsidis a standing 8 count before he stopped the fight. Knowing we had two warriors in there, I just dont think a fight should be stopped like that. JMM did land a lot of unanswered punches but Kat got on his bike and even began throwing back when the stoppage occured.
I think JMM would of won anyways but Kat prove he had enough power to drop JMM. I thought JMM was more hurt then ever from that hook of Kat. That is why I believe as long as Kat was standing he had a chance. Despite being dominated in the last round I didnt even think Kat would look that good against JMM.
Credit to JMM though - the guy is a tough shell to crack.
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
IMO, it was a good stoppage.
Bayless demonstrated how truly dumb Lawrence Cole is.

I agree. Bayless IS a very good ref, but IMO he kinda dropped the ball last night. The stoppage came without warning, and Katsidis deserved better. A standing 8-count wouldn't necessarily have changed the outcome, but it would've given Katsidis fair warning that the stoppage was coming.

I had that in mind and thought maybe Kenny was setting an example of when a fighter should be pulled out. However, this was nothing close to the Dallas match. Kat deserved an 8 count IMO.

exactly.
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
I think it's a good stoppage. When you take numerous straight shots in the head and have it rocked back and forth, it's time to stop the fight.
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
There is no standing 8 count in pro boxing (maybe some backward US state rules). If Bayliss did that he should be sacked.
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
I'm not sure about it really. He took a lot of unanswered punches to the head earlier in the round and you could see the ref taking a good at him. He could have stopped it when the shots were landing flush and nothing was coming back, but stopping it at the time he did seems a little strange as Katsidis had got on his bike to get his legs back under him, and he was starting to throw some shots back. He wasn't ducking and slipping the shots like he was in the earlier rounds, and the longer it went on the more punishment he would have taken, so it was better to stop it when he did and prevent any more power shots landing.
JMM looked great though, landing crisp counters and combinations, didn't look his 37 years out there. Katsidis also looked a lot better than I thought he would, it was a real back and forth fight. We were treated to a really great battle between 2 warriors, although my enjoyment was lessened by the fact I watched in on a spanish stream :-\ Credit to both guys for serving up such an entertaining fight
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
I just re-watched it and my first impression was it was a poor stoppage. After rematching it, I am sure Bayless was looking for a break in the action to stop the fight. He stepped in when Katsidis was the aggressor and regained his legs. I was right that Katsidis hit Marquez with a decent short left backed up Marquez and that is when Bayless stepped in.
I think it was a poor stoppage because it was obvious he was thinking about the political side of the fight, rather than the fight itself.
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
No offense, but the only ones that thinks it's a poor stoppage seems to be die hard Pacquiao fans. HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.:-X
Re: Kenny Bayless is my favorite ref but....
i thought it was a good stoppage, Katsidis was taking full blown accurate shots to the head and not throwing back, just watch how on top of it Bayless was, i mean he almost jumped in like 3 times in the 9th, and was close to stopping it in the 8th, Katsidis has nothing to be ashamed of, he went in there and fought like a warrior even dropping Marquez and pushing him to the limit, i'm pretty sure he made his brother proud, and honestly apart from Marquez i actually thing Katsidis beats Soto, Guerrero, and pretty much anyone else not named Marquez at 135, too strong and it was quite clear that he's improved since his losses to Casamayor and Diaz, Marquez is a first ballot hall of famer and honestly i hold him in the same light as Hopkins, what i mean by that is right when you think the guy might be slipping he puts on a superb performance against a younger willing and able opponent, no one beats him at 135 and Brandon Rios better just tuck tail and avoid him if he doesn't want his career ruined

What the hell are you talking about? Do you hate Pacquiao that much that you have to reach for a argument with Pacquiao fans? This fight had nothing to do with Pacquiao fans. It's Marquez fans, Kadsidis fans and fans of boxing. Why would those casual Pacquiao fans even watch this fight?
I was definitely a Marquez fan in this one, and he beat the crap out of Katsidis and Marquez won me $20. (I should have bet more) My wife's cousin and her husband were over for the fight, and He is a huge Katsidis fan. They are from Moree which is just North of Sydney. He was screaming at Merchant for his comments. My other family members watch with us also thought the fight was stopped too soon.

I actually defended Pacquiao a few times on this board about the A-side meth accusations, thinking it's bullshit. So I'm not a Pacquiao hater by any means. All I know is that the die hard Pacquiao fans on this board and other boards all have 1 thing in common and that is that this fight is a early/bad/shady stoppage, thinking that somehow or someway Katsidis comes back to beat Marquez if it wasn't for that "dubious" stoppage. Ridiculous. I know JMM gave Pac hell for his fights and is seen as 1 of his main rivals, but come on at least be a boxing fan and come with some objectivity.
But then again, a lot of the Pacquiao fans get a bad rap and I can see why, for they have almost no knowledge on the sport and only knows 1 fighter. Just calling it how I see it.

Very logical - stopping the fight is protecting JMM right? Or wouldn't it make pac look bad if Katsidis does something pac couldn't do?
WTF are you smoking man

Bro, Brandon Rios is a HUGE lightweight, at the Pac-Marg undercard he came in the ring weighing 157 lbs. at fight night. I think He is one of those guys that drain themselves to fit in a weightclass to have that physical advantage at fight night. Like Vic Ortiz, Brandon Rios I think should be fighting as welterweights as of the moment.
