Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
It's not easy moving up in weight, and yet still finding an opponent that belongs two weight class below you but Nonito and his team managed it with aplomb this weekend.
Credit to his promotional team for finding an entertaining dwarf who even came in with a cape like a fighter from the South American midget wrestling league.
He seems to be on a crash course to destroy all of Snow White's pal's, can't be many of the seven left now.
Respect.
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
donaire needs to stop fighting these midgets! there is no question he has incredible skills. last night i was like "wow, this guy has it all", and he does, but he needs to step up to the plate and stop living off his upset win over darchinyan three years ago.
right now, i've got the montiel/donaire matchup a tossup. this is a true battle between the clash of the mini-titans.
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
Nonito is obviously sizeable, too quick and powerful for his current division. If he fails to fight Montiel or Darchinyan in early 2011, I think he should move up to 126. I think he can take on Chris John. I really do.

Bilbo,
I agree that beating Sidorenko still does not make Donaire worthy of his lofty position atop the Ring Magazine's p4p list, but I was impressed by the way he dispatched him. It was a complete and utter domination. It made me look forward to the fight with Montiel even more. I can't wait for that one. At this point, I believe Montiel may not be big enough.
What do Vic, Sidorenko, and Montiel all have in common? They're all under 5'5.

Nonito is 5'7" and I believe he already fought once as 122.
For those who didn't see the fight in english...

It's a bizarre thing how big Donaire manages to look against everyone. I reckon he must able to hover over the scales or something.

I agree bilbs, Nonito needs to stop fighting lesser oppenent. I too am getting tired of him not being in big fights. Hopefully Montiel is next so atleast he would be fighting somebody with a better resume.
Eventually I think Nonito will be a featherweight. Lots of option for him and he needs to gain the peoples respect by getting the big fights.
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
On the other hand, Bilbo, if you put aside his inflated ranking, his career is finally moving in the right direction. You should give him some respite if he beats Montiel in February.
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
if donaire were to beat montiel, which is possible, the one fight i'd like to see is abner mares/nonito donaire. i think this would be a barnburner.
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
He's picking a huge fight in which he wont be able to have it all his way and relaxe for the first time in many. I think Montiels height actually works for him accompinied with quick hands, left hook as Donaire comes in,punching down. Yeh he beats who he's supposed to and how he's supposed to Montiel aint no Vic with two left feet or some of these other lilliputians he's been fighting.

Everyone feels the same way. Most knowledgeable boxing fans already know Donaire possess the skills to be a p4p top 10 fighter, but he sorely lacks the competition. Anything less than a fight with Montiel and fans would be sorely disappointed.

Yes he looked very impressive beating his undersized, 34 year old opponent, who had been inactive and couldn't hurt him.
Yes Donaire. Way to go. And no Donaire. Beating Jorge Arce will not make you a Super Star and does not mean more than beat Montiel. Doesn't matter if there the same age. And who cares how he looks on the 18th. Jorge Arce is finished as a fighter. Stick to the Montiel fight. Stop trying to coward out yet again. (Donaire interviewed by Telemundo after the fight talking about if Montiel fight don't come about than he wants Jorge Arce)
Re: Have to give credit to Nonito Donaire
What still can we ask for?
Sydorenko is a former titlist at Bantamweight with 6 defenses. If that is not a credible opponent prior to facing Montiel then who is worthy?
The Montiel Clash is already scheduled even before the Sydorenko fight took place.

Knowing Donaire's history, something will come up and there will be no fight with MOntiel. Donaire then continues to fight bums.

No doubt. He's already stated he would be open to facing Jorge Arce if the Montiel fight don't come about.
Already looking for a way out
