Mundine hitting US under Angelo Dundee
Following his fight tonight with young challenger and "The Contender" winner Garth Woods, Mundine is finally planning his big move to the US of A to get a real fight..
At the behest of long time supporter Russel Crowe, Mundine has all but secured his place in Miami to train under the legendary Angelo Dundee... Although Mundine has been quoted recently stating his true aim is to move to LA and training under Freddie Roach..
Whatever happens, as long as he wins tonight, Mundine is now making a realistic assault on US shores...
The bastard is only 35! Even though recent fighters have proved even at 35, they can still rattle and trouble younger, hungrier fighters,,,, it's hardly the ideal age for a mostly unknown fighter from Australia to head over to the boxing capital of the world and expect to get a bunch of big paying fights..
All to late in my opinion... But good him for finally doing something with what has so far been a giant waste of talent..

Finally.
Re: Mundine hitting US under Angelo Dundee
.... not sure really how this is such a shock. You keep fighting nobody's you'll eventually get beat by one. How can you progress as a fighter taking on the chumps mundine has. I like most never considered mundine to be much of anything. A loss doesn't mean much in boxing anymore...he should sign with top rank and they'd probably give him a title shot against pac at a catchweight of whatever. Or he can do the usual and start calling out floyd. Or shit call out the klitch's...... with catchweights anything's possible.
Re: Mundine hitting US under Angelo Dundee
Mundine no doubt lost the fight on purpose. He heard coming off a loss and looking like you shot is the best way to get the Pacquiao fight

Man, those ropes were mental looking. ;D
You could have catapulted off them and landed some sort of super flying punch! Mundine was practically lying down at one stage while leaning on them.

Well the arguement on Mundine's side before the fight was that he "can't get himself up anymore for these fights with nobody's"... (the obvious response is stop taking fights with bums them)....
To the point though, don't be surprised if he moves to the US to get knocked out by a C grade US fighter as well....
He is saying that for these guys he's been fighting, it's the equivalent of them fighting a prime Hopkins or Roy Jones,, in regards to being motivated to topple the giant... But for Mundine it's hard to be motivated for such fights....
So don't be surprised if he continues on after this, just aiming to get knocked out by a slightly more well known cab driver....
It's funny Otley said that Mundine is everything that is wrong with boxing and has giving nothing to Pro boxing... But on the radio on the way home on a sports channel, they were just commenting on hour great Mundine was for Australian boxing and how much he gave to it, and how good it's been to have him around......
THAT is the problem with AUSTRALIAN boxing!!!! They hype up a man like Mundine to the point of making out to be P4P champion of the universe,,, then 95% of sports fan's in Australia think boxing doesn't go very far past Mundine..... Which is about as far from reality as you can get..
In that respect, having Mundine fighting for "championship belts" for the past 15 years has actually hurt Australian boxing and brought it down to an almost shameful level for most of the mainstream sports fan....
You would actually be surprised of how little general sports fans and general public think of boxing here a sport... Even because of the violent side of it... Yet they are all over UFC/MMA.... Why? Because we don't have a C class MMA fighter here being touted as the be all and end all of the sport, and a complete ignorance of the rest of the sport by pretty much every aspect of the media....
The quicker Mundine goes away, the better chance we have of getting rid of his big ugly shadow, and maybe see some really ACTUAL promising fighters coming through who we can get behind...
RIP KT from Australian Boxing..... He was a once in a life time blessing by the looks of it..
Re: Mundine hitting US under Angelo Dundee
Some great points there Diz. It's a bit of a double edged sword the Mundine being good for boxing in Australia issue. It's good that he puts it on the agenda here and that he almost single handedly put boxing back on the map here in Aus and Danny Green owes him for that. However the talk doesn't match the results unfortunately which makes those efforts pale into insignificance with the differential between what Anthony says he is and what he has actually done. His father Tony is more what I admire in a man and a boxer. Little talk with big results, someone who commands respect with his presence not his hype or self promotion. His results speak for the respect he has when he enters a room not his mouthy self promotion. Hector Thompson is another great Aussie example of a guy who achieved a lot (and in my opinion more than Anthony) and doesn't need to tell people about it. He and Tony are great representatives of Aboriginal people and people in general, and happen to be great former boxers. Anthony said before this fight that Garth will see how he is the best, well sorry mate you haven't made it to "the best" you have wanted to be and said you are but nothing in your record backs that up. I admire Anthony for what he has achieved and how he represents his community but I have lost faith in the ability he has in achieving the heights he says he will in the boxing game.
