Khan forced to change gloves.
From ESPN:
LAS VEGAS -- Bunch of stuff going on here as we get ready for Saturday night's Amir Khan-Marcos Maidana junior welterweight title fight at Mandalay Bay.
There was an issue Friday over the gloves the fighters would wear. Khan has an endorsement deal with Reebok to wear a pair of custom-made gloves. However, when the Maidana camp didn't like the look of them, it asked the Nevada commission to weigh them. Turns out Reebok made an error because the gloves were 9.5 ounces when they were supposed to be 8 ounces, the weight for a junior welterweight fight under Nevada rules. The gloves were disallowed by the commission and Khan will instead wear Everlast while Maidana will wear what he planned to wear all along, Everlast MX.
You'd think the Maidana camp wouldn't have made it an issue, instead preferring for Khan to wear larger gloves because they would perhaps diminish his punching power. However, psychologically, it seems the Maidana preferred to try to get into Khan's head by taking something away from him that he wanted.
However, joke's on them. From what I am told, Khan is thrilled with the turn of events because he prefers Everlast anyway. He was going to wear the Reeboks only to honor his contract with the manufacturer. Once the Reebok gloves were disallowed, Khan was allowed to switch.

Oh well, the jokes on Maidana then. This change is going to increase the power of Khan.
Re: Khan forced to change gloves.
haha insisting your opponent switches from 9.5 to 8 inch gloves is an interesting demand.

Holy crap Ortiz, 154 or 156 unofficial weight in the ring.

Strange decision from the Maidana team...I can't imagine the type of gloves they'd use would affect the preparation for the fight etc, but the change in weight will make Khan's punches feel that much harder.
Unless they think Khan has glass hands then can't see any reason to demand that change.

I would think that was a big deal, but thanks to the experts on here we now know that adding weight doesn't benefit a fighter. Cutting weight is deadly but increasing means nothing.
Re: Khan forced to change gloves.
Roy Jones clearly confused here, believing Peterson is suffering because of the 9lb weight disadvantage. He keeps going on and on about it but he must not understand properly how the weight issue works.....
