Berto needs to fight a big $$ fighter to qualify for Pac...
Was just reading the Hopkins/Pac/Black thread and agree with a lot of people that they would have rather seen Pac fight Berto than and older Mosley... Some are saying it's because Mosley will be an easier fight and not as dangerous, but I think it's more so Mosley's name, pulling power, status (even though he's past it), and most importantly, money!
I think for Berto to get a fight with Pac next, or maybe 2 fights away, he needs to fight someone of note who Pac has already beat. Margarito, Cotto, even DLH or Mosley after Pac has finished with him would get his name up against someone big, and get him well known enough for Pac to consider him...
I think that would be we Berto should go.... If he can get it... Even if for HIM it's an easier challenge than fighting a Mandatory or hungry challenger, he needs a big easy name to qualify for discussions with Pac...
That's what I think anyway,,,

He's already qualified. All he have to do is mentain his unbeaten record while waiting til Pac gets done with Mosely and Marquez. I don't really care whoever he fight this year.

I think he as a fighter has qualified.... But stepping in the ring with Mosley or Cotto and the hoopla that surrounds it will have commentators and such all talking about him and a potential fight with Pac.....
I just think such a fight will take it much further towards an actual fight with Pac being made....
His record and skill speaks for itself, but unfortunately that might get overlooked even if Pac can't fight Mayweather, he may look for another name that doesn't stand up as well as Berto...

I got this strange feeling that we all get to see Mayweather vs Berto on November this year.

Hopefully not:( That's like beating Manny to the punch, PBF makes PAC look bad here. Then suddenly after PBF beats Berto, Manny decides to fight Berto in May of 2012:eek::mad:

Unfortunately that sounds about right..
Re: Berto needs to fight a big $$ fighter to qualify for Pac...
I agree Berto has spent far too much time coasting and that is what has held him back. He needs a WW name on his resume. The Mosley fight should have come off, but Berto hasn't done all that much since that fight fell through. It's a shame Cotto is at 154 as Cotto/Berto would be a good fight.
Re: Berto needs to fight a big $$ fighter to qualify for Pac...
Agreed and he was about to get that against Shane but since then he has not bothered either. Move up and take a light middle like Cotto or unify the title.

I see what your saying, but for it to be worth the risk, Berto needs to fight a name to get Manny interested otherwise Manny will see that he can make better $ elsewhere, because without it, nobody will care about Berto. Fighting Ortiz isn't a bad move because he's had alot of exposure. Beating a Mosley or a Margarito will raise his stock. I think he needs to take a risk or he'll never become a star.
Re: Berto needs to fight a big $$ fighter to qualify for Pac...
To fight Manny, Berto could possibly take to fights, second one being somewhere near the Pacman vs Mosley fight. IMO, if Berto don't fight Ortiz now and/or soon, he should fight his mandatory. Then somewhere around May, fight the winner of Bradley vs Alexander. We all know Pacman is not going to fight again until November after the Mosley fight(should he win). It's only a few fighters that Manny is considering . . .
1. Berto
2. Martinez
3. Cotto
4. Bradley
5. JMM
maybe
6. Alvarez
None will be able to leap frog Martinez in the P4P ranking but fighting each other will certainly be crowd appealiing.
