Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
Female boxing star Martin fights back from gunshot, knife wounds; March bout set - Sports - ReviewJournal.com

■ GUZMAN FLUNKS TEST -- Dominican junior welterweight Joan Guzman tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic banned in Nevada, after his second-round technical knockout over Jason Davis on Dec. 11 at the MGM Grand.
His status will be addressed by the Nevada Athletic Commission this month.
Guzman did not make the 140-pound limit for the fight, coming in 4½ pounds too heavy. In his previous fight in Las Vegas, March 27 against Ali Funeka for the vacant IBF lightweight title, he came in 9 pounds over the 135-pound limit.
Coincidentally, Funeka tested positive for Furosemide after that fight, drawing a nine-month suspension by the NAC.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, junior welterweight contender Joan Guzman has Tested POSITIVE for Furosemide, a Diuretic BANNED in Nevada.
According to the article the Dominican tested positive after his fight versus Jason Davis on the Amir Khan-Marcos Maidana undercard this past December. Both Guzman and Davis were over the agreed upon 141 limit for the fight.
Perhaps Guzman took a page from lightweight contender Ali Funeka. You may recall that Guzman defeated Funeka this past March in the rematch of their controversial but lost the IBF title that was at stake prior to the bout when he weighed in 9 pounds over the 135 pound limit. Funeka received a 9 month suspension from the Nevada State Atheletic Commission after the bout for testing positive for the same diuretic, Furosemide.
The NSAC will determine Guzman's fate later this month.

Waste of talent . The guy shouldnt fight at all. He disrespects the fans, fighters, promotors and everyone involved in boxing. Screw Guzmam
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
and still did not make weight limit :o :-X
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
Absolutely ridiculous, I feel betrayed honestly. I used to think if he would just get more active he would be an absolute dominant force. Now he's just another d-bag.
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
People make a big deal about this stuff and talk about guys weight draining them. These fighters don't belong at the weight to begin with. Rather than suspend them for using it they should just ban then from fighting at the weight.
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
Still convinced Funeka had a tko for him to take. Guzmans finito.
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
He's kind of short, gonna be rough for him at welter, which seems to be his only option. They list him at 5'7" but he's more like 5'5":p

Yep. If Humberto Soto is 5'8", then Guzman's gotta be 5'5".

Guzman epitomises disrepect to boxing. He is officially on my boxing hate list, along with his trainer Lee Beard.... F**k em both..........
Re: Joan Guzman tested positive for banned substance
After reading this thread, I had a quick look at his fight with Soto. He could of been somebody worth remembering.
In other words, forget Guzman.

That's actually a really sensible idea.
At the end of the day its a diuretic, NOT a performance enhancer. Diuretics are banned for the saftey of the athlete using them.
It's nice to know the Nevada state athletic commission can at least detect something. Althought they are INCAPABLE or just plain ignorent of performance enhancers.

Lee Beard should definately get a lot of shit for this as one of his primary tasks is to make sure his fighter is on weight.
Guzman's still nowhere near as high on my least as people who have competed using performance enhancers or loaded gloves...

Don't like Lee Beard, totally confirmed that he was a complete dick when he was smirking and grinning when Guzman was 9lbs over on the scales against Funeka. He should be fined also, just because of that case when he thought it was amusing to come in overweight. idiot.
